WIBU to put DD to sleep on her front in pram during daytime?

She seems to absolutely hate being on her back. She has a lot of wind and is happiest when we wind her on her tummy.
At night we sleep her on her side wedged in with towels so she cannot roll over.
But she will simply not sleep on her back OR side in pram during the day. She gets horribly overtired and it is just impossible for me to get anything done (cooking, ironing, laundry) as she wakes and cries five mins after I put her on her back or side.
WIBU (or unsafe?) to put her on her front in her pram in daytime, watched at all times by me if course, so that I can iron, cook etc without having to stop and hold her for an hour at a time?
Will it mean she then refuses to sleep on her side at night do you think?
Anyone else done this?

She is five weeks.
Isn't really about where I put her as much as the position I put her in. Se won't sleep anywhere on her back is my point. In her basket at night or in pram during day. Obviously I can't put her on her front at night when we are asleep. But I am getting desperate to have her sleep during the day and wondered if on her front but watched by me might be ok.

I really wouldn't put her on her front at 5 weeks, she is still so tiny. Could you use a sling or something?

From what I have read about sids many drs think that the breathing is the last thing that stops working so by the time the baby stops breathing they are not able to be revived so it isn't safe for a baby to sleep on their tummy even if they are watched (or have a breathing alarm) :(

I don't think you should. You really couldn't watch her all the time if you are cooking/ironing etc. Safer to try to get her used to sleeping on her back.

I'd second a sling. Also a bouncy chair. Mothercare have done for about £40 but can spend fortune.

Also agree dont let sleep on tum even watching them. I've been told same thing by midwives. Can't find website but sure is one....

Had the same issue with dd2 so I feel for you.

However you need to stop propping her in her side its really dangerous! Sids risk is from her flipping on get side also overheating as she can't wiggle around to get cooler if overheating.

You need to persevere with her on her back tbh and expect very little sleep.

Would 3rd a sling by the way that's how I chopped with dd2 the monster she's still a shit sleeper.

Fashions certainly change. The advice when my DCs were tiny was always to put them to sleep face down. They survived.

Hintofbream "fashion" is a stupid word to use to describe changes to medical advice about protecting babies.

OP, maybe try posting on the sleep threads for more advice about helping your baby sleep? But I really don't think your day OR night time arrangements sound safe. Don't worry either that how they sleep at 5 weeks is how they will sleep forever!

I'd put her down on her front or better still, on her side with rolled up blankets down the side of the pram / cot so she can't roll over. My two both loved to sleep that way. My friend's baby would never settle on his back but slept for hours on his front. Just saying...

Is twenty five quid but its a really nice one comes in red as well and I think pink.

Hintof Bream well good for your dc then, children, if you bothered to look at statistics then you will note that since the advice changed there has been a huge drop in SIDS cases. Saving a childs life isn't 'fashion'.

Hang on a minute. Not so much of the stupidplease, I wasn't advocating putting babies face down, just remarking that it used to be the done thing. Would you have been happier if I had said "childrearing practices certainly change"? On the other hand we received dire warnings about taking your baby into bed with you as you might drop off and smother him/her, yet that seems to be very much the fashion done thing these days.

statistically, sleeping on front or back is WAY down the list of risk factors for SIDS - but it is something people can actually do something about.

both my two always slept on their fronts because I ran through the risk factors with my HV and she agreed that it would make no difference

Can she hold her head up? Are there any other risk factors? FWIW all my babies slept on their tummies, just as I did up until being pregnant! All had strong neck muscles, it was a smoke free house, they were in just a sleepsuit & body vest & they were in a room with me & constantly breastfeeding throughout the night. Once they could roll over I must admit I felt easier about it.

The only baby I know who has died of SIDS was in a car seat on a journey home but the research does show that cot deaths have gone down since the advice was to sleep them on their backs.
