Name changed as I have been talking about this IRL today.

My husband has an old car that he potters around with and he has been having trouble with something he can't fix so I suggested he ask on a specialist forum if anyone could help.

I was completely shocked that all he got back was people saying you can't just waltz in and ask a question without introducing yourself then a load of weird references to the Lord of the Rings saying stuff like you can't just walk into Mordor, all in bizarre Ali-G speak. WTAF?

you should go on a hifi forum and ask about cables...

To be fair neither of you recognised a very common meme so its pretty obvious you live a sheltered internet life

I think you should go onto the forum and say "I'm looking to buy a classic car. Which ones are blue?" They will tizzy themselves to death.

It wasn't Pistonheads but I'd rather not say which site it was as I fear they might track me down and torture me!

I have noticed that a first time poster went onto the same site and asked a similarly techie question without a hint of an introduction and they didn't get the same treatment as DH did- the key difference- she had an obviously female name!

All sorts of yucky images about what the pouncers are thinking about a female grease monkey
