giving money as gifts is very usual in both our families

So what is the problem? Confused

As for being "sad" for a 1 year old having no presents to open, seriously, she's one. From memory unwrapping presents is a long drawn out and painful process culminating in the parent ripping the wrapping off for the child and the child then ignoring the gift and eating the paper instead. :)

I'm glad the OP shared even if it isn't really a problem for her

I love a good old judge at stuff like this Grin I got my special judgey pants out and indulged myself for a bit. Grin

Problem is more the rudeness at asking outright (and really not a problem more than a reason to clutch pearls at the audacity....).

And of course DN won't know that she doesn't have anything to open but it is still nice to see them opening presents and then eating the paper

I'm another who would assume it meant the recipent didn't want the packaging. So would just remove the packaging and wrap. Possibly in bubble wrap if its an awkward shape so the paper doesn't get torn.

Maybe see if there is some toy money suitable for a 1 year old? I know there's a pink toy piggy bank with coloured discs.
