Would it be ok to say something do you think?

Don't say anything. Just hop the hedge and chop those things down.

Neighbour had wind chimes. I let the toddler loose in our back garden with a ball. It wasn't long til the chimes were taken down. It was the metal ones.

Take it down! And then bury it.

Yes I think it would be okay to say something since they dont actually hear the darned things themselves.

Or do a midnight raid armed with a ball of garden twine and tie those buggers up.

Will be a service to all your other neighbours.Grin

YANBU and yes it would be ok to say something.

My neighbour has bloody annoying metal ones in her back garden - which she now puts elastic around at night after I mentioned they were driving me crazy.

She sleeps at the front of her house and we sleep at the back of ours so she couldn't hear them and hadn't even thought about it. She was absolutely fine about it and apologised.

Hedge too high sadly. I will have to say something if I want them to disappear.

The OP has privacy concerns about this post and so we've agreed to take it down.

Blush I have wooden windchimes and I really like them. My dp wondered if we should take them down for neighbours benefit but I said no cos they've been there for a year and we've never had a complaint.

Would def take them down if asked.

I would ask them to do something about it. The elastic band thing is a good idea. YANBU about it.

We asked our neighbours and they took them down.

Does anybody really want to listen to their neighbours chimes clunking away?

Ask now before it gets to warm and you want your windows open at night.

They are the work of the devil. Definitely talk with your neighbour.

I'd have loved it if next door had asked us to take ours down. I hated them, but DH liked them. I softened the noise by cutting up a sock and wrapping it round the middle bit, it was better but not brilliant.

I have now hidden them, don't think he's noticed yet Grin

Just ask them to take them down they probably have no idea that they are distrubing you and would be mortified if they knew and you never said anything. Just be friendly about it and they won't care at all I am sure.

There was a programme about Enviromental Health people at the Council and they did investigate went and sat in complainers home a set of wind chimes that were annoying a neighbour

It did come across as comical

Oh i love my wind chimes, but they are proper tuned ones (cost 40 quid) not they tinkly high pitched ones you get. However i do take them down at night as my neighbour sleeps with her window open and aim sure they would be annoying to her even although i find them relaxing.

Report
Sallyingforth · 15/04/2013 11:52

It would probably come across better if you asked them to mute them or move them further from your windows.

I love wind chimes, but have never dared get any for fear of annoying the neighbours. We have a tree in the garden where I dream of hanging a set of beautifully tuned metal ones...

YANBU. They are hideous pointless garden tat. Our neighbours had them until I knocked on their door and asked them to do something about it as the noise was horrible. They said they would take them in at night. They took them in and thankfully we have never seen or heard the damn things again!

I quite like them, I must admit. I recently bought some and when I brought them home and showed DH I went over all the places I'd like to put them up which were immediately greeted by "NO!". Eventually he said to me "why don't you hang them up in the bin?"

Miserable git!

Oh yanbu I can't think why people would want them up, if not to piss off their neighbours.

Oh dear, I have just bought a wind chime (haven't hung it yet) and I didn't actually think about the noise annoying the neighbours.....oops!! I may have to rethink where to hang it, but then again my neighbours are extremely annoying so maybe I won't worry! Haha!

Definetly talk to your neighbour though, politely ask her to take them down at night or something.

Report
merrymonsters · 15/04/2013 12:53

I think they're very annoying and people shouldn't have them if they have neighbours. They're fine if you live on a farm or alone on an island or similar.

I would tell the neighbour that they are bothering you.
