WTF is going on?

OP posts:
lulu2 · 15/04/2013 00:05

I too am giving up on it now, no one can say I haven't tried.

Mspontipine · 15/04/2013 00:11

I'm loving it. The teacher wanting to march by his boys had me in tears. :(

bootsycollins · 15/04/2013 00:11

Yep I'm quitting, it's just not filling the period drama shaped hole in my life at the moment. Grim, depressing and painfully slow.

ChasingDogs · 15/04/2013 00:15

I'm also giving up. I get the general gist of what's going on, despite the writers/producers best efforts, and it's fecking miserable.

I recorded the first Alien movie on sky and watched that instead. At least it has a happy ending for the bloody cat.

Fuzzysnout · 15/04/2013 08:52

The eye colour thing was mentioned on points of view - they admitted they had made a boo boo.

TomArchersSausage · 15/04/2013 08:55

We've given up on it. Too depressing and slow.

freddiefrog · 15/04/2013 08:56

I've tried and tried with this but I just can't get into it

I've got all 3 episodes on Sky+ but I keep falling asleep half way through the first episode.

Everyone I know is raving about it, so I'm glad I'm not alone

diddl · 15/04/2013 09:17

Who is Greek??

I'm finding it compelling tbh.

Love John Sim, though.

LAlady · 15/04/2013 09:34

I'm loving it - my Sunday nights are sorted. Some superb actors and found last night's episode relating to the teachers in particular, very moving.

sherazade · 15/04/2013 20:24

When I first watched this I was reminded of my grandfather who has light blue eyes in his old age when he was previously brown eyed. Elderly people lose the pigment in their iris thus giving the appearance of light blue or grey eyes.

Gave up on it 15 minutes in so can't help. Sorry.

LynetteScavo · 16/04/2013 18:14

I don't like it just because John Sim is middle aged in it, and he used to be the same age as me.

AnnieJumpCannon · 16/04/2013 23:24
Grin Yes, very true, I can't get my head round John Sim being old enough to have children.
2rebecca · 16/04/2013 23:29

Watched 10 min of week 1 and decided it was too miserable. I hate misery memoirs, he may have lived to an old age but that doesn't mean his life was entertaining.
The syndicate is much more fun. I like the pre-morse morse Endeavour as well.

MadMumToThree · 16/04/2013 23:53

Would they really have had a bathing place in a small village? Surely they all had tin baths at home. Wish they would talk more - too much left hanging.

grovel · 16/04/2013 23:58

It's a protest against Thatcherism. Things were so much better in the early 20th century and she fucked us over. Or something.

williaminajetfighter · 17/04/2013 03:13

It's definitely an endurance test. The BBC have confused the misery of real life with entertainment.

Just as I don't want to watch a tv show about my neighbour going to the hospital or my friend losing their job, so too do I not want to spend my Sunday night watching the day to day misery of early 20th century life.

I am really enjoying it but although I really love John Sims I think he is very wrong for the part he plays.
