To be really angry when I see flowers being picked in public places?

Today I saw a small boy of about 4 or 5 picking a daffodil from a park to present to his mum/nan (hard to tell). All very lovely but if everyone stopped to pick one there would soon be nothing left but a few leaves!

I like seeing the Spring flowers and I taught my children to leave them where they were for everyone's enjoyment.

.....so I screamed like a banshee out of the car window "Stop picking the flowers !"

OP, do you really think this is reasonable behaviour, screaming like a banshee at a young child, and you're actually so proud of yourself that you came to report what you did, and now you're actually defending this behaviour?

Sativa · 15/04/2013 00:58

My main point was about destroying the flowers. "Screaming like a banshee" was more for comedic effect but hey.....(smug emoticon)

You are being unreasonable, poor child, thank god it wasnt my 5 yr old.
I feel sorry for the kid. It was only a flower and five is very young age to know the difference between right or wrong. You should be ashamed of yourself!

YANBU to think that he shouldn't be picking flowers but YABVVU to scream out the car window at him! Why the need to say anything at all? Really inappropriate.
My almost 3 year old looks much older than he is (most people assume he is 5) but he very young for is age. He picks flowers sometimes, I tell him he can smell them and touch them but he mustn't pick them. He's generally remembers not to now but sometimes forgets. If a random woman screamed at him he'd freeze and be quite traumatised by it, he's very sensitive.
You sound like a bit of a twat. It's ok to say something nicely if you know exactly what's going on and are actually there with them but someone shouting out a car window can seem quite aggressive and scary.

YABU to scream at the child (although I did laugh in my head at the image, so I myself am BU).

YANBU to think people shouldn't pick "wild" or "park" flowers.

This is going to sound awful but in recent years there has been a big thing about people leaving flowers at the spot where someone died in a car crash. While I appreciate people wish to grieve, 9 times out of 10 they leave the flowers there wrapped in cellophane which won't biodegrade or could easily be eaten by an animal who would then die.

yabu its not the crime of the century .

Well, hopefully you've learned something from this thread. Most people would not see the comedy in having someone scream at their child from a passing car. Moreover it's quite hard to hear what people are saying when they scream from cars - you just end up looking like a crazy shouty aggresive person which I'm sure you're not.

I think we all agree that it's good to correct other people's children when out and about, but it has to be in an appropriate way.

I think you are a nutcase screaming at anyone you don't know, especially such a young child.
