to insist that I don't want a cooker hood?

Sorry to be dull but have been quite amazed at how much debate this has caused. My kitchen is small but open plan and has a huge window so I'd rather have the cabinet space. Builder claims he won't put in new kitchen without it Confused. His refusal is not about building regs. He just thinks I'll 'regret it'. AIBU not to have one?

Our fan is via the microwave above the cooker, and a small cupboard above the microwave.

We don't have one as the kitchen came like that and there's no room! It's fine apart from the cooking smell that ends up in the bedroom sometimes...

We've got one under a cupboard. It is very slim and you pull it out to turn it on. I don't use it all the time but wouldn't like to be without it.

You can get extractors that sit behind the hob and raise up from the worktop.

Maybe this would work?

They are called down draft extractors.

This one isn't cheap but I'm sure other brands make them.

Just had a quick look on Amazon - search for downdraft extractor and loads of options come up at various price points.

Some are packages that include a hob as well. Example below.

We took it straight out when we got here - it was one of those useless recirculating ones, and perfectly positioned to block all light and hit your head on it. Kitchen is large and has windows.

no cupboard above hob, and as and when it all gets redone, that's how it will stay. Too many cupboards anyway!
