AIBU to expect Asda, NOT, to have very dangerous seeded grapes on casual display ,within reach of young children?

why do they have to put them in such easy reach?
Why do they put them at toddler eye level?
It's irresponsible at best and could cause a very serious injury.

Sorry if this sounds a bit ranty but I am,so, very cross.

We went to Asda today, whilst shopping there my DD was sitting in the trolley and by expert toddler deception obtained, ate then choked on a couple of seeds from a handful of acquired grapes.Angry
I only ever buy seedless ones for DD so she is NOT used to grapes, even having seeds.
She coughed for quite a while, it made her eyes water. Sad
Poor DD it must have been terrifying for her.
I'm not sure if to just complain or take some other action?
It's really put poor DD off eating grapes, which is a such a huge shame, as she always enjoys a snack whilst we shop.
DH thinks we should take legal action, I'm not sure.
Do you think we would we have a strong legal case against Asda?
Thank you in advance..

True trills, i didnt think supermarkets sold seeded grapes now?

MrsHoarder · 10/04/2013 08:22

Yabu. Are you not familiar with the principles of evolution, we need to weed the stealing toddlers out of the population and what better way to do that than with booby-trapped snacks?

CoolaSchmoola · 10/04/2013 08:24

MsBertha - no, not everyone goes around the supermarket eating grapes and drinking drinks (!) they are going to pay for - because in law that is known as theft.

WRT grapes most supermarkets weigh these at checkout, so are unable to weigh the ones you have troughed on the way round. So you aren't paying for the grapes you're eating, you are STEALING them.

Where do people get the idea that it's ok to eat and drink stuff BEFORE you pay for it? Until then it's not yours to consume. Plus it's not hard to go without food for the hour it takes to shop, or give your kids a snack (not evil seeded grapes though!) before going shopping.

OP, teach your DD to T Rex, then her arms will be too short to reach the evil seedy grapes...

Grapes should be cut up, lengthways.

You totes have a case for being injured by purloined goods hun, you go for it x x x x x

OhDearNigel · 10/04/2013 08:27

I hope you paid for those grape seeds when you got to the counter [catsbum]

peedoffbird · 10/04/2013 08:27

Arf at BookieMonster gaffer tape dc hands to the trolley!!

SoupDragon · 10/04/2013 08:28

Of course supermarkets sell grapes with seeds in. Why wouldn't they?

Which doesn't make the OP any more likely to be true.

WireCatWhore · 10/04/2013 08:32

I choked on a grape seed when I was young.

I am still alive to tell the take. Can't remember the incident if I'm honest & there are no lasting side effects.

Other that I can't eat grapes as they give me a horrendous tummy ache.

But I can drink wine. So that's ok! Wine

Blatherskite · 10/04/2013 08:33

It's another of those threads based on a well known MN fight trigger, prob started by a journo to prove what a bunch of vipers we are allowing it to be used as "evidence" in an Amanda Holden backing article.

And it's shit.

0/10

TwoPoundCakePuncher · 10/04/2013 08:35

I meant that was a gaping hole in the OP's story if the thread about a thread theory was to be believed Soupdragon.

I shop at Aldi and they dont sell seeded grapes, i thought most supermarket grapes were seedless, perhaps im mistaken.

Softlysoftly · 10/04/2013 08:40

ignore these witches hun, u no ur doing ur best 4urlittle un.

I'd get a barrsiter innit. Do a proper job onAsda.

Tweasels · 10/04/2013 08:41

Genuine Grape Question

What is the point in seeded grapes? Do they taste better? I cannot see why else you would make your own life harder and have to partake in pip spitting.

Also, if the grapes don't have seeds, how do they make more grapes?

HappyMummyOfOne · 10/04/2013 08:42

Hmm Suspect its a wind up, nobody could write that post and mean it surely.

If by miniscule chance its real, complain and lets see what the store say re shoplifting. Keep your trolley away from the displays if you know she takes without asking.

Never understood the need to eat or drink anything without paying for it. Either eat before you go or take a paid for snack with you, its not exactly rocket science. How do you pay for fruit etc you have eaten if the staff cant weigh it?

MrsHoarder · 10/04/2013 08:44

Tweasels they are more natural than the freakish seedless grapes.

ophelia275 · 10/04/2013 08:49

Oh your poor precious innocent daughter. Yes, sue Asda and perhaps write the Prime Minister a strongly worded letter about the dangers of grapes? I hope your daughter is ok and not still traumatised and I can't believe Asda would just allow grapes out in the open like that! Shocking!

Oblomov · 10/04/2013 08:51

No OP?
But god, it was funny when she was here, wasn't it?

infamouspoo · 10/04/2013 08:52

choked in my seedless coffee reading this. can I sue? Grin Grin

Binkyridesagain · 10/04/2013 08:54

I wouldn't mention your DD being in the trolley. If it was me going down this route then I would alter my story (who's going to prove your wrong?)

mention she was toddling along, all very merry and happy, tripped over one of the crates that had been left in the aisle, flew across the rest of the aisle and landed face first in the grape section, she had her mouth open and a seedless grape pinged off its stalk and landed on her tongue, as she was inhaling to build up enough pressure for an almighty ear splitting scream, the pressure build up caused the sking of the grape to rupture pelting the back of her throat with seeds from the only seeded grape in the whole store.

SparklyVampire · 10/04/2013 08:58

If this isn't a joke then you have definite issues and should seek help immediately.
If it is a joke then you need to do better...seriously.

Bearbehind · 10/04/2013 08:59

I honestly think this was intended as a serious thread but the OP is now so embarrassed by it she will either never come back or will come back and say 'of course it was a joke'.

The litigious, money grabbing society we now live in has driven some people to lose all sense of persepective and relinquish their own responsibilities, for example the need to adequately supervise their own children, if they think they can 'get some compo'

Fakebook · 10/04/2013 09:06

Your dd stole the grapes. She's a thief. You allowed her to thieve the grapes, so you're an accomplice. No, I wouldn't take legal action and next time, try keeping her an arms length away from seeded grapes and other dangerous fruits.

RevoltingPeasant · 10/04/2013 09:21

Snigger at barrsiter - Softly

RandallPinkFloyd · 10/04/2013 09:26

dirty evil fruit selling shitters

M25Meltdown · 10/04/2013 09:30

God this thread is so 2000's.

Waits for the cat and the football and a pirate sex thread, and don't forget the cube of poo, and the sweetcorn running down the street. Have I missed anything out ?

WeAreEternal · 10/04/2013 09:31

It's either a joke....
Or those particular institutions that like to get all of the stories from threads on MN have moved it up a peg.

Tomorrow we will see a story saying,

"MUMSNET ENCOURAGES SHOPLIFTING MOTHER TO SUE ASDA"

A mother is planning to sue ASDA after her daughter chocked on a bunch of stolen seeded grapes that the toddler was left to eat unsupervised while traveling around the store.
The mother said in her post on mumsnet "why do they have to put them in such easy reach? ...It's irresponsible at best and could cause a very serious injury." She also posted "It's really put poor DD off eating grapes, which is a such a huge shame, as she always enjoys a snack whilst we shop." Which is also supposedly unpaid for.
The mother posted on the popular parenting website to ask other parents if they thought she had a strong legal case against Asda, and after receiving overwhelming support from other parents, with comments such as "Yeah, course you do! Ultimately it's the governments fault...I would take it to your MP as well." By someone under the username Agentzigzag.
Another user, MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe, said "You must sue ASDA"
This is yet further evidence that mumsnetters are nothing but a bunch of unreasonable vipers!!
