To think that Amanda Holden has missed the point about mumsnet?

She is right that you'll face criticism sometimes about choices you make but it's really naive to think that people in real life aren't judging the choices you make. The thing that mumsnet does for me is to open my eyes to just how many people hold different views, some the same as mine which feel really supportive and some very different. This has taught me to be a bit less naive, to empathise with people more and I find that the openness and honesty is quite refreshing. It's very easy in real life to cocoon yourself in situations with people you know hold roughly the same views. I wouldn't like to be in constant conflict and there are certain threads that I'd avoid because I'd be fairly sure I'd not like what I heard. But there's nowhere like it for getting a range of actual, strongly held views.
I guess the only difference is that the views expressed against her have been very personal and pinned to an actual person rather than an anonymous mumsnet nickname/persona.

And people are often vipers in real life too-just not to your face. I feel rather patronised that ms Holden felt the need to protect us and future mumsnetters from ourselves. If I felt mumsnet wasn't helpful I don't need someone who's never posted from a hospital bed at three in the morning despairing from lack of sleep and fretful about my pregnancy and two children at home and then received almost instant supportive, handholding responses to tell me. I'd erm...leave.

She has said on Twitter that they should set up their own website and make a difference.Confused Can't wait to join.....

Molehillmountain · 08/04/2013 21:34

What could she call it though? Mumsnet-done. Netmums-done. I'm putting on my anagram thinking cap...

AH has majorly missed the point of mn. You need to participate , in many sections, to reap the benefits.

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2013 21:35

NetMandys?

Molehillmountain · 08/04/2013 21:36

So would you not be allowed to criticise anyone or disagree? What on gods green earth would be the point? At least here you know someone really agrees with you when they do.

Holden'ands I imagine.

landofsoapandglory · 08/04/2013 21:41

I saw that Sparkling, didn't someone suggest calling it MonsterMummies?

landofsoapandglory · 08/04/2013 21:43

Oh, no my mistake, MonsterMummies have sent her an email because they would love to work with her!

Molehillmountain · 08/04/2013 21:44

Given up. I got "smut men" as my best anagram attempt.

My eyes!

Molehillmountain · 08/04/2013 21:52

Looks simply wonderful. I think Amanda would be a fool not to get herself associated with them.

I have never looked a t Twitter before but it looks like one big love-in/creep session on AH's.

lougle · 08/04/2013 22:00

Sparklingbrook, they haven't used an apostrophe in 'Mums' Shock

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2013 22:02

OMG lougle no they haven't. Shock

lougle · 08/04/2013 22:04

MonsterMummies has 76 members and 460 posts....I'm not sure that AH would be that interested in teaming up with such a new venture?

fedupofnamechanging · 08/04/2013 22:05

Have not read the previous threads about AH, but I would say that if she doesn't like criticism, perhaps she shouldn't do things that people can criticise.

She has put herself firmly in the public eye - the public are going to have opinions and she has to take the rough with the smooth.

76 whole members? Justine should start to worry, then?
