Especially with the young girls. The big hair extensions, full make up, fake tan, huge eyelashes, drawn on eyebrows look must be such high maintenance! It looks lovely, but I just can't imagine ever being arsed. I'd never have pulled! I'm so glad we never had Facebook or mobiles either. I was a teen in the early/mid 90s and thought that was traumatic enough with tie dye, dms and those heat changing tshirt things.

Aaaah, I miss the 90s with its oversize checked shirts, T shirts and DMs.

I miss casual wear because I am lazy it suited me. It annoys me that women are expected to dress up so much more these days.

Sorry, back to topic, I am feeling my little 12 year old is growing up too quickly asking me to bleach the hairs on her legs and plucking of eyebrows. Then there is instagram where they have the same pose of pursed lips and provocative stance. I have decided to take her iPod away because of this.

Back, "Or where you are looking". Kinda taking offence at that remark. I get a nasty insinuation from that comment. Live in glasgow and I would say that half of her friends post photos on instagram. I know this as I like to know she is communicating with.

Sorry, don't know what you mean.
I'm just saying that - among all the teens my ds mixes with, my dd mixes with, my nieces mix with, and all their groups of friends that post on FB etc., and the teens I volunteer with, I've never seen anyone looking like what you describe. Didn't know if you were watching one of those daft programmes that portray somewhat unusual characters as if they were what all teens were like.

I just see it all around! Perhaps I live in a better looking part of the country than some I'm not sure how some seem to be taking offence to my observations. I've already said I think the look is lovely, but it just must be so high maintenance! Especially the spray tanning. I've tried it a few times and its such a faff. I'm holding out for the pale blotchy look to come into fashion!

I'm in Liverpool, and ALL teenage girls look like that round my way. (And also see a lot of hair in rollers, full make-up and pyjamas ). My DSD used to look like that when she was a teen, we used to call her an Oompa Loompa. She's toned in down a lot now now she's 20, but still wears hair extensions to work (why ) etc.

I'm also in Liverpool and it is the case here that most teen girls you see have the look that the OP describes. I sometimes do myself when I'm going out.
I was very orange between 2001-2007!

I sometimes look at the local teenage girls and think I will try something they're wearing, then remember I am twice their age and size not a teenager anymore and shiny red skintight trousers wouldn't suit my post-baby muffin top.
Also the thought of making that effort every day makes me want to go to sleep.

I would never want to be any other age than I am now. I think teens now generally look a lot more stylish and together than I did! I think people of my age were lucky that grunge was the fashion in my late teens when I wasn't confident with my body. Lots of baggy clothes.

I was a teenager in the 1990s during the grunge and britpop era so I get where you are coming from.

The outfits were fairly androgynous (Doc Martens/Converse and flannel shirts for grunge and then Fred Perrys, retro addidas trainers and tracksuit tops) I think that it encouraged us to see young women as mates and interesting people rather than sex objects.

Tbh they were the same when I was in school, which was less than ten years ago. I didn't bother and thought (still do) that they all looked like morons.

Its like that here too. I was a teenager in the 90s and am glad the fashion wasn't like that then. Going out clothes seem really tiny now, I would be a virgin forever if I was a teenager now.

I'm glad we didn't have laptops and gadgets because I would never have afforded them. Dress down day was stressful enough for me as I didn't have any fashionable clothes.
