To be upset that ILs read the Daily Mail?

Each to their own obviously, but they clearly believe what is written in it. MIL sometimes comes out with stuff like 'Isn't the Human Rights Act awful because it allows criminals to do X' and DH recently had to take FIL to task as he was ranting about Romanian immigrants with large council houses. DH explained that this isn't the norm.

Added to this, the recent death of the transsexual teacher hounded by the DM and yesterdays headline about the welfare state being responsible for the Philpots's actions (!!!!), AIBU?

I read it online. It's a bit like eating junk food-you know it's bad for you, but you do it anyway!

Here op, take a grip!

LynetteScavo · 04/04/2013 20:09

Chipstick - indeed thickos love the Sun, but Guardian and DM readers seem to have similar reading ages.

I am thick but the Guardian is my newspaper of choice. I think the Guardian was invented for dyslexic left wingers.

Chipstick10 · 04/04/2013 20:18

You could be right Lyn. My teachers used to pull their hair out at my spelling as did a couple of my bosses. Not only thick, but can't spell either. I've got a beautiful face thoughGrin

No one should rely on one source for their information, if they actually want to get any and not just a light read.

I read the DM for light hearted stuff and I love their little serials on actors etc, I used to like YOU magazine but I don't bother now.

I also used to read the Guardian until I realised how utterly stifling and suffocating it was, it was really pushed at uni though. I do like alot of their disabled stuff though.

Now I mainly read Independent, Mail, Telegraph and on more serious issues I force myself to the Guardian website to see what they have to say as well.

If I am really interested on any topic though I will devour anything I can read and go from there.

Guardian readers are if anything more set in their beliefs and views of the world than even Daily Mail readers. But of course Guardian readers know best.

I read the online addition (mainly for the comments), along with the Guardian, Telegraph, Independent and print Sunday Times. All newspapers are propaganda dressed up as news, an intelligent person should be able to read through the lines. If I were to avoid everything that promoted an agenda that I disagreed with (and they all have one) I'd never read anything. That's one way to ensure you never have a clue what's going on in the world or other peoples minds, true ignorance, no thanks.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/04/2013 21:17

How ridiculous, OP. They read it and you write about it here with a fair amount of description of the contents?

grimbletart · 04/04/2013 21:17

Good one Lotta Grin

I used to be in a job where I had to see all the papers every day. When I left I don't which I paper I enjoyed not having to read more - the Daily Fail with its rabid right wingery or the Guardian with its bleeding heart naivety. The Mail on balance I think. At least the Guardian is only self-righteous, while the Mail is viciously hypocritical.

ThePinkOcelot · 04/04/2013 21:29

YABU! They can read what they like!
