Yes, they can be quite windy. My advice is to not add them to anything when you are planning a quiet evening.

if you cook them with a pinch of asoefetida this will not happen. good for all things windy too.

Apparently your response to them is genetic. Some people have farty genes, and some don't.

DH and I are both non-farty and we love them!

As discovered by me when I tried to find it on all the online shops I could think of just now.

They didn't have it when it was spelt right, either.

I'll have to pop down the Health food shop and embarrass myself with my attempts to pronounce it.

Or you could try an asian shop asking for Hing Tanith they should have it.

Tanith - go to an Indian grocers and ask for 'Hing'. Comes in small plastic pots and v. Cheap. Is used as an onion/garlic substitute for some Indian communities and a pinch added to beans/pulses helps counteract any farty issues

'D'MIL feed DH and me artichoke soup one 31 Dec and then sent us of to a New Years party.

I've tried asafoetida with pulses and beans. To no avail though.

Choco - are you frying it or just adding it with seasonings? Is best fried or tempered in hot oil/ghee

Can't be as bad as the root vegetable stew I made at the weekend: silent but deadly. Won't be making that again!
