To think people should wash their hands?

In a restaurant with dd at lunch time. I took her to the toilet and a woman took her ds at the same time. We came out of the cubicle first and were hand washing when they came out and walked straight out in to the restaurant.

They sat back at their table and proceeded to eat lunch

Before anyone days it, they didn't use any anti bac gel or wipes either.

So AIBU? Is this the new thing?

I remember being at work and one of the cafe staff came out the cubicle and wandered straight back out after she'd done her business. Gross gross gross. We were a very very busy supermarket and the cafe was always full of people. Dirty mare.

Omg it's a real peave of mine. Cannot stand it when people don't wash their hands.

countrykitten · 04/04/2013 08:50

Shock at 'left something terrible....'

MandragoraWurzelstock · 04/04/2013 09:21

We keep old bottles of mineral water in the car and use them on occasion for this - if someone has accidentally got dirty or fallen over or trodden in something. Or if we've touched something sticky etc.

We just pour a bit of water over our hands next to the car, rub them together, then rinse.

HollyBerryBush · 04/04/2013 09:38

Let me think about this.

Person A - goes to loo, doesn't wash hands, touches door handle on way out.

Person B - goes to loo, touch taps, wash hands, touch taps again, touches door handle.

I'm still seeing the same spread of germs.

MandragoraWurzelstock · 04/04/2013 10:02

This is why I use toilet roll, or a paper towel, or my shoulder to open the doors on the way out, Holly.

I guess all door handles etc have germs on but at least I'm not touching the ones immediately by the toilets.

I have to admit to having some issues regarding this - I avoid public toilets at all costs and rarely take my children into them either.

greensmoothiegoddess · 04/04/2013 11:13

Deep Purple - always wash hands at home.

It's the manky loos out and about that are troublesome. The ones with no hand towels and a sliver of grimy looking soap IF you are lucky. The ones with mank all coated over the taps.

Like I said, I don't touch a thing.

Owllady · 04/04/2013 11:19

I don't understand why someone wouldn't wash their hands either after using the toilet

I know someone who works in infection control and the only thing that gets rid of a lot of nasty bugs/viruses is hot soapy water (not anti bac gel)

countrykitten · 04/04/2013 11:21

But you then have your own faecal matter/urine on your hands (loo roll is not a barrier) and YOU are contributing to the germ spread that you are moaning/paranoid about! Ridiculous.

countrykitten · 04/04/2013 11:22

Makes mental note never shake hands with greensmoothiegoddess

Vile.

SneezingwakestheJesus · 04/04/2013 11:28

This is why I avoid the public toilets as much as possible. They must be FULL of germs! I dread when dd is old enough to use toilets out and about.

Arabesque · 04/04/2013 11:32

I can't stand it when people don't wash their hands after using the loo. It's really inconsiderate and people who think it's no one else's business are wrong, wrong, wrong. You are going to be touching other things, possibly preparing food for other people etc. How long does it take to put a big of soap on your hands and run the tap?
As for people who work in hospitals and don't wash their hands - that should be a sacking offence.

MyDarlingClementine · 04/04/2013 12:22

Holyberry

Thats why I always use my sleeve or tissue to touch all handles and doors in loo's and always go for the very tip or bottom of the door handle!

MyDarlingClementine · 04/04/2013 12:24

I really fanatically upped the hand washing in my house this winter after an arrival of NB and a DC in reception.

We managed to navigate loads of nasties going round including from my DD.

I down graded the fanaticism slightly as baby got older and we all caught colds.
It does work!

greensmoothiegoddess · 04/04/2013 15:03

country kitten - are you a troll? You are taking things just that bit too far. Calm down luv! You are working yourself up into a frenzy lol.

greensmoothiegoddess · 04/04/2013 15:05

Same here, mydarlingcelementine. Great minds etc.

VerySmallSqueak · 04/04/2013 15:10

If I'm out and about and need a pee,I find a bit of spit on my hands and a quick rub is enough to clean 'em up when I'm done.

countrykitten · 04/04/2013 16:17

Nope not a troll - just a hygenic person!

GinAndSlimlinePlease · 04/04/2013 16:25

I never knew that about anti bac gels. I will use mine less often.

I do love a good hand clean though. so satisfying.

And then I use my sleeve to open the door of the bathroom.

I might be a germ freak Grin

greensmoothiegoddess · 04/04/2013 16:34

Haha - me too Gin. First thing I do when I'm through my front door is a good hand scrub.

greensmoothiegoddess · 04/04/2013 16:34

I like your style, VerySmallSqueak. Might have to try that!
