to think i should be able to buy an Easter egg on EASTER Saturday

Just been to Sainsbury's to get an Easter egg for me and DP to share tomorrow but there are none left; zilch, nada, ZERO eggs. The person in the store looked at me like I had two heads when I asked where they were; "Easter Eggs you say? No, got none left. Might be a couple of cream eggs near the tills".

The 'seasonal' aisle is now full of summer gardening equipment (look outside people!!!) and confused looking mums wanting to buy last minute eggs.

Perhaps I should start shopping a season in advance; buying my Christmas turkey in September and Easter Eggs on Boxing day. Shit, I better start queuing for some sparklers for Bonfire Night in case they run out of those in November too.

Get it together Sainsburys. Some of us live in the moment.

I don't think that the shops have necessarily run out of eggs, it's just that they have chosen to clear their shelves as Easter is now 'over'.
Last night my local Tesco Express had a full selection of eggs, chocolate rabbits and hot cross buns.
Today, nothing. They've all be removed and replaced with other offers. Not even a solitary Maltesers Bunny hiding at the back of a shelf [busad].

There were none in the big ASDA yesterday and none in the little Sainsbury's today. I've bought mine already but was surprised as every other year there are always lots on sale half-price on Easter Monday. Lots of people looking bewildered on the seasonal aisle today. I suppose some DC may prefer a watering can, but not many. Smile

This is one of those times when Woolworths would have saved the day, they always had loads.

Crying bloody shame they are no longer with us.

harbinger · 30/03/2013 18:53

Yum, Hotel Chocolat. The DDs went and bought me a lovely 100g block yesterday. I'm being very VERY good and havn't scoffed it already.

As it's not egg shaped,I might just have to test a little tonight. [bugrin]

somewherewest · 30/03/2013 19:04

There wasn't a fecking Easter egg to be had in our medium sized town today (we looked everywhere). M & S were clearing away all the Easter displays mid-afternoon

somewherewest · 30/03/2013 19:08

...this would be the same M & S that already has shelves of 'Great British Summer' shite out despite the fact that there is still unmelted snow in our back garden.

Not that I'm bitter....oh no...Grin

harbinger · 30/03/2013 19:21

When the DDs come home they showed me a picture of the £70 Ostrich Egg that they had seen.

Who buys them?

Gingefringe · 30/03/2013 19:50

Strangely our local Tesco had absolutely tons of Double Decker eggs with mugs. Nothing else! What's wrong with double deckers? i bought three and eaten one already

Andcake · 30/03/2013 20:01

Same in my corner of London earlier today. All gone - None in m&s, none in waitrose, couldn't face morrisons bought a few small random things to compensate in newsagents. Then found a teso express with loads including a green and blacks dark choc egg for DP. Suspect he won't have got me anything though as went out after me (at 5 when the football on the radio finished ahhh)

Might out myself now but my lovely neighbour is a store manager for a large supermarket. He has just delivered my bags of mini eggs and even he had to reserve them from the petrol station. They had only 2 bags left people [bushock]
Just double decker large eggs are left in store. I've reserved two for Monday when reduced

StuntGirl · 30/03/2013 20:09

Every year shops have loads of eggs left over they have to sell on cheaply and lose money on. I'm glad they've finally wised up and reduced wastage to be honest.

in an ideal world the shops would have had just enough and have run out today. Sadly loads will get wasted.

I was quite surprised to find that Christmas actually stops about Dec 18th.

I'm all for 'just in time' but it now seems to be a world of 'way too early'.

peacefuleasyfeeling · 30/03/2013 20:21

Waitrose' shelves groaning under the weight of own brand, Green & Blacks' and Thorntons' eggs, but what I was really after were a couple of bags of those small solid eggs with a speckled pastel sugar coating, but they were all sold out as they're ideal for egg hunts, apparently. Happy Easter, everyone.

Honestly I think they stocked fewer eggs this year than previous years. Or, they people have purchased more eggs over the last couple of months, Because I've always bought eggs after Easter, especially ones with a toy or a mug that I fancied but didn't want to pay full price for before Easter. This year, every shelf I've seen for the last few days has been bare except for the small Easter bunny Maltesers or random small bags of Haribo. No eggs.

Thankfully I bought some when my mum was visiting a couple of weeks ago (including some Hotel Chocolat bits from her, yay) so minimal last minute shopping for me. I did decide I needed little wrapped eggs for hiding (I seem to have lost half the plastic eggs I use for hiding) and I think I picked some up at Lidl yesterday.

Horsemad · 30/03/2013 20:26

Our local Tesco only had Double Decker eggs with mugs too Ginge
