I do not like the whole 'pirate' fashion or skulls in any item of clothing, not for myself, baby, etc. but a friend gave me as a gift some clothing with the 'pirate theme' all in black and white.

I see it as a symbol of death, something that you see in a bottle of bleach maybe? Not something a baby should wear. AIBU to not use it? I obviously thanked my friend but won't make my baby wear it

I saw some babygrows with skulls on on the tesco website and I thought it was odd to have a skull on baby clothes.

I wouldn't dress my DS in them, I would do as other poster said just take a quick pic and put them at the bottom of the babygrow pile for if when you get to a stage where the washing needs doing and there are no clean babygrows except for the skully ones.

I have a simalar problem, a friend gave us some jeans for DS as an Easter gift, DS is 3 months old and still has little froggy legs, there is no way he needs jeans I can't think of anything more uncomfy. I wrestled him into the jeans today and took a photo of him in them and sent the photo to her then thay have gone in the bag of outgrown clothes.

Feel free to send it my way. I love skull motifs, and DS looks damn cute in them.

Fair enough, YANBU.

I don't like little girls' clothes to say things like 'babe' and 'sexy' or have big logos. Very naff.

eBay it and use the money to buy an outfit you do like.

When the dc were born several people gave me things that were either the wrong size (or would have been for the season they were appropriate for) or I didn't like them for assorted reasons. Some people gave gift receipts which was great as I then changed them, bought something I liked and everyone was happy. The rest are still here 8 years on for some waiting for me to eBay!

I agree with you 100% op & so do many of my friends. I don't get the obsession tbh.

Poppins27 · 30/03/2013 21:38

I actually dont mind the skull and crossbones fashion myself, don't own any but like it on others and wouldn't be against wearing it.

BUT I have seen some really cute baby boy clothes with the design on and refrained from buying it for my friends DS's for fear of them not liking it for their babies. For the very reasons the OP has mentioned.

I do not think you are being unreasonable, just have a different sense of style to your friend. My Dd has been bought some lovely clothes that just haven't been my cup of tea, I have either secretly exchanged them or have let my Dd wear them when she has been with whoever had bought them for her.

By buying clothing you always run the risk of chosing something that's not quite the same taste as somebody else, I wouldn't be offended if I was your friend, just disappointed that I hadn't chosen something you liked.

Fair enough, but do be aware that he may be pirate obsessed at age 3.

You do realise that from your baby's perspective, anything you choose will be something you "make" him wear? He might prefer black PVC, neon sparkles, an Aussie rules kit - who knows? :)

I will take a picture and thank you for your replies. Still not keen on the pirate theme
