To think its completely outrageous for the govt to not include internet access as a necessity on the voucher programme when

they are now demanding all benefit applications and correspondence has to be online? I think it is disgusting. Its pushing already marginalised and often vulnerable people beyond the edge. In our Borough over 20% of folk do not have internet access. These people are generally the poor, the foreign, those with MH issues. Is this just another step to ensure the poorest most vulnerable members of society have no voice or access to services?

But Jesus could knock out meals for nothing.

Fish course, carbs, vino.

We can't all do that.

Roseformeplease · 28/03/2013 18:11

Surely, helping people to access the increasingly online world is a good thing, not a bad one. As long as there IS help and they are given chances, surely that can only be of benefit to them, making them more enfranchised and employable. Yes, take time. Yes, offer training but, sometimes, people do need a nudge in the right direction.

Teach a man to fish.....and all that.

Hullygully · 28/03/2013 18:11

well all right, I grant you he could stretch a bit of grub like nobody's business.

But he still loved the poor most.

Hullygully · 28/03/2013 18:12

Yes, HELPING them to would be absofuckinglutely magnificent.

That ain't gonna happen tho.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 28/03/2013 18:13

Rose

The input needed would be huge. It will not be provided.

Lovecat · 28/03/2013 18:14

Can someone point out to me the part of this thread where anyone except for the hard-of-empathy said that benefits claimants should get free computers/internet access?

Because the simple answer, as has been said many times, is NOT to make online claims the only method of applying.

I'm assuming Mme Defarge's question in the title was meant as a 'how the actual fuck do they expect people without internet access to claim benefits unless part of these shitey vouchers they're proposing includes an element for the interweb...?

Seems straightforward enough to me. A computer made of ham with a pepperoni keyboard, though... now that's the kind of blue sky thinking that made this country great :o

Tiredmumno1 · 28/03/2013 18:14

Just going back to the OP for a mo, I think it's a daft idea, they should just leave it, at least people have a choice of applying online, doing it by phone or by post, or my favourite, good old fashioned walking in and asking for an application form Smile

Easier all round

FreyaSnow · 28/03/2013 18:15

Rose, because many people claiming benefits who don't know how to use the internet aren't looking for a job. Why does my 91 year old grandmother need to learn how to use the internet, buy a computer and get an internet connection.

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:17

Oh me too tethersend! Should I send it to the poor?

Darkesteyes · 28/03/2013 18:18

Two Bras ATOS are the company who do the "medical" assessments for DLa/Esa claimants for the DWP. It is target driven Dispatches on Ch 4 went undercover and PROVED this.
people have had their ESA taken away and have had to go on Jsa instead so they WILL be the people who have to go to the library for internet access and be fucked about.
I assumed you would know what ATOS is because i assumed you would have at least read up on these subjects before posting your drivel.

KatieMiddleton · 28/03/2013 18:19

Look. The solution is simple. We just round all these poor up and send them to Findus to go in lasagnes.

Except, who is going to buy these lasagnes if all the poor as literally mince meat?

I know, I'll see if we can get M&S on board? Or Waitrose?

But first I'm off to tell the bloke in a sleeping bag outside McDonalds to just go inside! Unless of course he'd rather use the Internet in my living room? That's right isn't it TwoBrasOneBrainCell?

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:23

Why would I read up on something I am not involved in when the simple question was 'To think its completely outrageous for the govt to not include internet access as a necessity on the voucher programme when...'

I have better things to do. I am but one of millions of people who are tired of earning FUCK ALL and having our taxes spent on people who are not deserving of them. This only applies to those ABLE BODIED people who are feckless - that is it. NOT the vulnerable, elderly, disabled, mentally ill, abused etc. Got it?

It's only in regards to those who do NOT want to be a functioning member of society. I CANNOT make that any clearer.

woollyideas · 28/03/2013 18:23

Grin at Katie. Turning the poor into lasagne. So they literally are what they eat. Perfect.

woollyideas · 28/03/2013 18:25

TwoBras I know this is very very hard for you to process, but functioning members of society do have to claim benefits sometimes. I know it's a hard concept to grasp dear, but do try and keep up.

Hullygully · 28/03/2013 18:27

those people dont exist twobras, they are an invention to set ordinary people against each other while the rich get richer. and you should read up on all this stuff, you should want to be informed of what is going on I'm your country, if not the worlf

Pagwatch · 28/03/2013 18:28

I am not sure you can claim to speak for millions of tax payers.

And I am not sure you can claim to have better things to do tbh.

KatieMiddleton · 28/03/2013 18:30

Good lord we can expect people to do some actual research to avoid coming across as ignorant! What a shocking suggestion!!

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:31

Oh Jesus woolly. Maybe I need to be more specific for your wee head dear. Do try and keep up here.

Those 'functioning' members of society should be welcome to take any assistance they can get as they have paid their way. They deserve it. You were an accountant or cashier paying taxes for 10 years? Go for it. Those who do feck all, and enjoy it, are the ones I am talking about.

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:34

Oh, it is millions dear. Sick to the back teeth of it. I'll be sure to be informed about what is going on in the 'worlf'.

Pagwatch · 28/03/2013 18:35

Hully is right. The spectre of the feckless living off the taxes of honest sorts is all around. It's always worse when times are bad. And it always shocks me how those who have the strength /wherewithal to swerve the poverty trap are often the most inclined to believe it and fear it

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:36

Katie So everybody on MN is supposed to research every thread before commenting? People are allowed an opinion especially when they are tax payers that are tired of these threads of 'But this should be free too.' WHY should it be free? I got nothing for free!

TranceDaemon · 28/03/2013 18:37

I've tried to read this thread and have had to stop because I feel sick to the stomach at the sociopathic lack of empathy demonstrated by some people in this so called 'society'. Angry

Tell you what lets open some fucking workhouses and stick all the scummy poor people in them, where they can't infect you with their feckless stupidity eh? Confused

Let's hope you don't ever get sick or injured or lose your job unexpectedly, you heartless bastards.

TwoBrasDontMakeABodice · 28/03/2013 18:38

As I said before, if we were to put all of the 'this should be free too' threads together, the UK would be even more skint. Where exactly will all of this money come from? Where?! It isn't there!

Hullygully · 28/03/2013 18:38

dont start being all snarky, people, we should all be equalled outraged at what is being done to our country and all care about each other, especially the poor, it could be any one of us tomorrow. the only people it deffo wont be are Gideon, Dave and co. and that's a fact.

Pagwatch · 28/03/2013 18:39

But no one said anything should be free.

The premis of the thread is don't ake applications available only on line if people are not able to get help with access if they need it.

And seriously. Stop speaking for tax payers. We don't all begrudge helping those who need it.
