To want to start maternity leave as soon as I can just because I hate my job?

I only have 5 more weeks then due to start mat leave however, I really, really dislike my job and am desperate to finish sooner.
Financially it makes sense to stay longer (and my OH wants me to maximise earnings before leaving) but it is unlikely I will have a job to go back to, due to the current position of the company, so not sure it will impact on time spent at home with baby LetMe after the birth (which was another of OH's concerns).
Would it be unreasonable to finish sooner despite feeling well and being physically capable of working?

Oh horrid that you have to go back for 3 months after maternity leave. That would make me more likely to tough it out to 36 weeks.

OR... if you think you won't be able to bear going back, can you make sure you save the "extra" part of your maternity pay somewhere, in case you do have to give it back?

Luckily I only got the bare-minimum statutory maternity pay so there were no consequences for me in deciding not to go back!

Hmmm, I think you may have persuaded me to do as I want! Thanks for the responses everyone, will sleep on it. To the poster who mentioned about redundancy, thanks for the tips - will be useful (sorry I can't remember your name - am useless).

I am working on the basis that there won't be a job to go back to Lily (risky strategy I know)! I will have to do that regardless of when I start ML though so not really thinking about it in relation to when I go.

YANBU, Leave! I started my ml at 6 month because like you i hated my job, and the traveling was a nightmare.
I had a wonderful 3months of relaxing, shopping, lunches etc and was so much happier and really enjoyed the time to myself.
