To have been giving DS the wrong amounts of Calpol for months and think the amounts should be labeled better?

Had to have DS up at Yorkhill the other night as he was ill. While trying to get his temperature down in a panic, I was told he should be getting 8.2ml for his weight and not 5ml.

I don't think it even has a time where it says 8ml on the box! Confused

So, AIBU to think that the boxes should be labelled correctly with amounts for weight? I've been complaining for ages that the stuff doesn't work well at all when actually I just haven't been giving him enough of it.

The risk is not approximation, it's a factor of 2.2, so dosing for 22 when it should be 10.

I am under 40, have a baby and think in lbs for weight. Yes really.

It's not about what is logical, or what makes sense to you. It is about what is foolproof.

The French syringe idea is fine as long as you ONLY USE IT WITH THE MEDICINE IT CAME WITH .The problem is people might not do that.Put it back in the wrong medicine box and next time overdose their child.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/03/2013 13:47

Yes, you ahve to use it with the right medecine. I still don't see why this would be complicated for most people.

so if you have a small child for there age should you be giving them less? It is silly to have age instead of weight, most people know what there child weighs dont they?

I'm only 22 btw, it's just that I have never been told DS' weight in lbs, only kg and if I am weighed at the GP surgery they tell me in kg too. I have to work it out if I want to know in lbs or st. Same for height, I am always told my height in cm. Confused

I get that some people might have problems calculating dose properly. I don't like that it's assumed everyone will do it wrong though so weight/dose information isn't given.
