It always makes me think people have put their clothes on inside out. Or am I just an old fuddy-duddy? Grin

Blue, you have given me massive Gran envy. My Gran was so enthusiastic about everything I wore. Commenting and exclaiming loudly. She couldn't get over my chloe paddington bag - the weight of it and that (stupid) padlock!
Grandad used to call me 'filmstar' and tell me I was beautiful - he was almost completely blind at this time, the charmer :)
I miss them so much!
(sorry happyseven completely off topic)

PurpleStorm · 25/03/2013 22:21

I don't like visible zips on clothes either.

Bluelightsandsirens · 25/03/2013 22:47

Art They are a treasure, we don't get to see them as much as I would like to especially with comments like "Blue, I think I may be getting alli himers" err nan I think you mean Alzheimer's

She thought she may be getting Alzheimer's because she mixed up my 3 DD's names which made me giggle because every one has always mixed up me and my sisters names and now and still my DDs, it's not new and has been going on for 25+ years Grin

Sorry op.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 25/03/2013 22:58

I have a dress with a visible zip, but I consider it to be a semi-casual dress. Not something I'd wear for a naice evening out. It goes well with my knee-high boots with more zips and buckles. :)

sashh · 26/03/2013 03:14

Blue

My Nana used to do that, sometimes she'd go through half the family before getting the right name.

I hate them, they are one of those 'fashion' things that is actually saving the manufacturer's money.

And what if it breaks when you are out? A concealed zip can be bodged with safety pins or a quick bit of tacking.

ripsishere · 26/03/2013 03:34

I am a heiffer. I like showing my bra straps off. I buy jazzy or snazzy bras fir this purpose. IABVVVU.

ZillionChocolate · 26/03/2013 07:17

I think they're ugly and look like you've made your clothes in Y8 textiles class.I did relent and buy one dress with one though.

Rugbycomet · 26/03/2013 07:22

I don't like them...there are beautiful delicate tops around with a huge heavy zip...yuk!

HibernoCaledonian · 26/03/2013 07:27

Brilliant, like minded people. I hate them with a passion.

RubyGates · 26/03/2013 07:33

Horrid. Just Horrid.
One visible zip badly chucked sewn onto a garment = They want your money but don't want to bother setting a zip.

Several as a feature= not my cup of tea, but at least they made an effort.

Chandon · 26/03/2013 07:34

Oh, I like them.

I have a pretty floral dress ( I know, I know!) and the contrast coloured visible big zip takes the granny edge off it, IMO.

chicaguapa · 26/03/2013 07:35

It started with the more expensive dresses which have a longer zip and it's supposed to be sexy as it draws the eye down the body and is reminiscent of the line on the back of stockings. They look really nice.

Now the other brands have jumped on the bandwagon and a 6" zip on the back of a top makes it look a bit chavvy IMO.

piratecat · 26/03/2013 07:38

studs. why. massive dangerous brass studs ruining what you think is a nice top till when you pull the garment off the rail.

Hate them!

Zips on stuff in the 80s in a punky way was different somehow. I had a lovely pair of black stilettos with little zips on them, a black jacket with lots of visible zips and a mini skirt with a big visible zip. I'd still wear these things now happily actually (though not all at once any more).

I ordered a lovely clingy, oyster pink, floor length evening dress online recently for a do with Dh and ILs, and when it arrived it had a darn great heavy silver zip on show up the back! It looked awful. I loved the dress enough to pay a local seamstress £40 to take the zip out and put it on the inside where it belonged! Grin

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 26/03/2013 07:49

I like them at the mo, but in a couple of years they will date horribly, and anyone who'd bought an expensive and otherwise classic piece with one will be kicking themselves.

MrsKeithRichards · 26/03/2013 08:00

I get it now! I have clothes with zips as a feature but I agree if it's a posh frock the zip should be hidden.

Chandon · 26/03/2013 11:21

I have had my lovely contrast zip floral dress for 3 years already, so yes, it could and should be a bit dated soon.

As to chavvy.....LOL, that depends on the clothes, obviously... And the person wearing it Wink, I could do with a bit of chavvy, people usually say I look " elegant" which makes me feel old!

GinAndSlimlinePlease · 26/03/2013 17:34

I'm wearing a lovely dress today that has a visible zip down the back. To work Shock

Grin

I don't think it's slovenly, as it's tricky to make a visible zip neat.

Down the front of the dress would be bad though. And the weight of the zip needs to match the weight ofthe fabric.
