To whine about neighbour's tree lopping? (Warning: may be too thrilling for some!)

Ok hold onto your hats.
I live in small quite packed street with garden directly at the bottom. They have 2 intertwined trees on the border with our tiny yard, always dropping bits onto our side etc. fair enough, I like trees!
However today they've massacred the tree and at the top, the guys have left a load (about 15) of chopped branches just hanging in the foliage of the other smaller tree. I am rather annoyed. A gust of wind could bring down quite big branches on us.
Ok we're not planning a barbecue this weekend Grin but I'm not v pleased.

I had a word with the tree surgeons (?) who said they'd jump over the fence to clear it up but I'm not sure that's quite enough (and they haven't done it yet).

Whilst I was standing on a chair talking to the men (I know, Victor Meldrew..,), the woman who owns the house was blithely making lunch for her kids and ignoring the whole thing. Ok shd probably couldn't see me

Finally, to the AIBU! AIBU to be annoyed that neighbours didn't put letter through warning us of tree lopping and that they clearly don't give a toss about what their neighbours might think?

Grrrr

They are their trees to do with as they wish so yes YABU.
Instead of taking huge offense, why not go round and tell the owners that you've got a load of clippings / branches in your garden and would they like to come and get them or should you just chuck them back over? By law the clippings belong to them even if they've fallen on your land, so you're not being funny by doing so, you would actually be breaking the law were you to dispose of them without telling the neighbour.

Your post did make me smile

YANBU - My neigbours warned me when they were having tree work on our boundary - actually I had mentioned that the trees were leaning on the not too strong fence - and I had said that their tree surgeons were welcome to come into our garden if required.

Thank you both for answers. I was BU I reckon! And to think my first ever thread on AIBU was about trees (the shame).
The tree surgeons cleared up on our side too (thanks to mr getting a bit harrumphy but it was good that they did).
I can now give said neighbours a big smile (and see straight into their house - hur hur).

Should be thanks to ME getting harrumphy. I don't send DH in to sort out my border disputes (like the Wild West Grin)

Oh - and trees always look worst just when they've been pruned and especially when they have no leaves. Give it another few weeks and some better weather and they'll likely be fluffy all over and looking good.

This was on this Sunday just gone, it mentions tree wars and a charity set up by a man who spent 20 years of his life fighting his neighbours 40ft leander tree hedge.

Trees and gardens are exciting stuff, it can get like the wild west.

I love a good 'ol garden dispute. Although, I am pleased OP's dilemma has been sorted out amicably.

If you want a good read tryThe Garden Law website. Talk about bunfights.

::glances outside to the hedge carnage going on in her backyard...glance strays to very hot tradesperson with hedge trimmer and no shirt:: Ummm what were we talking about?

I don't think you can expect them to tell you about work being done a tree in their own yard, although it is polite to do so if the work will impact upon the neighbours. Think of it that at least they are doing something about maintaining the tree, rather than letting it get too bad.
