to have dumped my neighbour's rubbish on their driveway?

Went outside a short while ago to put a black bag of rubbish in my wheelie bin, to find it was half full with 2 bags of rubbish clearly put in their by my neighbours. This is not the first time they have done this, but previously I have just ignored it and moved my bin away from the wall separating our gardens. I find that if I keep the bin near my front door, well away from the wall, this never happens (as they would have to walk into my garden, rather than just leaning over the wall).

This time I saw red, took the bags out and put them on their driveway.

I should add that I am not really on speaking terms with them, due to the previous rubbish incident, the fact they left an almost empty pot of paint out for the rubbish last year (which the binmen wouldn't take and sat there for about 3 weeks til some kid kicked it over and it splashed/marked my driveway...), and they are matey with my Ex. I know it would be more mature to have knocked on their door and asked them, but due to the above, I really don't want to speak to them!

I honestly don't think I'm BU (who does?!) but am I?

In the past I've actually dumped my neighbour's rubbish on their doorstep. Blush

I'm as certain as I can be the rubbish is theirs - the bin bags are the same as the ones they use, and their bin was overflowing a couple of days ago and it isn't now.

So cheeky of them. YANBU.

Someone dumped a load of stuff in our bin one xmas when we were not expecting the bins to be emptied. Left big bits of dried pampas grasses hanging out! I donned rubber gloves to squash it down but then spotted a letter in the top of one of the bags; so I just took it out and dumped it on the relevant doorstep. One of the inhabitants (students) arrived home as I did it,so I just said that if they were going to put stuff in other people's bins then perhaps they should not include things with their address on!

KC225 · 24/03/2013 17:52

Starfish - hahaha what did the student say?

MurderOfProse · 24/03/2013 17:57

Have done the same with former neighbours (the schoolbooks with their DC's name on it gave it away!) It's ridiculously cheeky of them to do that, when bin space is at such a premium these days. Which surely they would know or there would be no reason to use your bin.

VelvetSpoon · 24/03/2013 18:02

I think because my bin is often half full they feel entitled to chuck their stuff in it if the opportunity arises (ie if I leave it close to their house) Hmm

what annoys me is that we are 5 mins by car from the local council tip. there is no charge for dumping household waste. They have 2 large cars and a van between 2 of them, so no reason why they couldnt go down there to dump it if they cant fit everything in their bin!

Good for you they are arses

JacqueslePeacock · 24/03/2013 19:34

hmmm...I can see that this is very annoying, but I have been told to do just what your neighbours did, by the council. I rang to say I had too much recycling for my bin, so could I please leave it out in a bag, and they said no - just stick it in any neighbour's bin that has space. I was told that the bins are actually the property of the council not the users, and so this would be fine Confused

starfishmummy · 24/03/2013 19:40

KC she just said it wasn't her, so I told her to speak to xx, the person the letter was addressed to!

blackeyedsusan · 24/03/2013 19:42

we had students downstairs. they filled their bin with unsquashed recycling, despite walking past the recycling bins every day, then started filling up other neighbourrs bins (in one bin shed). after sorting my rubbish and taking my recycling to the recycling point, and staggering down 2 flights of stairs with stinky nappies only to find they had filled my bin too I saw red, took out their carrier bag of rubbish, left it on their doorstep, and knocked loudly on their door before stomping off upstairs. funnily enough I never did get more rubbish in my bin from them.

Yanbu. Jacques - it would be ok to do as you suggest if you ask the neighbours permission first. Otherwise it's justf cheeky.

JacqueslePeacock · 24/03/2013 22:42

Yes - it was going to be on bin day, definitely not just during the week! And i didn't actually do it in the end as I felt a bit too cheeky. But I was interested to hear that's what they suggested.
