To want an alternative Cath Kidston?

ShortTermName · 23/03/2013 19:59

I went in there the other day to get a present for a friend as I know she likes Cath Kidston stuff. Personally I don't like the colour scheme - I'm more of an orange/purple kind of person. :0

However, I did like all the bags and purses and bits and pieces and wondered if any of you folks know of somewhere that sells similar type things but in what I would consider nicer colours. Think big bold orange flowers rather than itty bitty pink flowers. :)

Orla kiely?

KobayashiMaru · 23/03/2013 20:02

you couldn't find the style section?

Dannilion · 23/03/2013 20:02

Kirstie allsop? I don't know about bags but she did some pretty snazzy homeware. I also second Orla Kiely.

MisForMumNotMaid · 23/03/2013 20:04

What about Fosil? Some of there stuff is colourful and the bags are similar from cross body functional to bigger carry alls

heres an ebay example

Anything at www.paperchase.co.uk/?

CombineBananaFister · 23/03/2013 20:07

Celia Bertwell? Also Cath Kidston do a retro range at the York shop which is just as you describe - big orange/brown/purple flowers like something your nanna had at the caravan when you were little.

FakePlasticLobsters · 23/03/2013 20:08

Anywhere that sells Marimekko items?

Another Marimekko seller.

CombineBananaFister · 23/03/2013 20:08

Blush not your nanna obviously, I don't know her, I meant my nanna

Catsnotrats · 23/03/2013 20:12

Try that link again

ShortTermName · 23/03/2013 20:14

Yeah, sorry about that, did read it back and think i sounded like a pyscho nanna-stalker Hmm

NorbertDentressangle · 23/03/2013 20:21

I love Marimekko's prints - will watch this thread as I'd love to find UK stockists.

DD has some Converse in a print designed by Marimekko. I'd never heard of them until I stumbled across the Converse and googled the name.

ArtVandelay · 23/03/2013 20:27

Oooh that Marimekko is amazing! Thanks for introducing me to it (drool) :)

Catsnotrats · 23/03/2013 20:34

I went to their flagship store in Helsinki last year, god their stuff is amazing. Their fabrics are sold at a few places in London (and I'm sure elsewhere!), I have curtains that were made at a local curtain shop. Apparently they are nightmares as suppliers though, the curtain maker wasn't able to give me any estimate beforehand as to when they would receive the fabric from them.

ShortTermName · 23/03/2013 20:52

Thank you everyone. It has taken me a while to look through your suggestions.

Celia Birtwell was awfully expensive! I did like a lot of the other stuff - you did all seem to understand what I was trying to get at. Trouble is, I have discovered that I really do love orange and companies are quite stingy (sp?) with orange.

I'm sure other lurkers are loving these ideas. Thanks again guys.

Celia Birtwell's just launched a collection for Uniqlo! If you're looking for homewares, you might like Mini Moderns. I love pattern, but nothing girly and got lots of stuff off them. Plus some of their stuff is dead cheap in my local TK Maxx.

ujjayi · 23/03/2013 22:50

Have you tried looking on Etsy? All kinds of amazing individual prints on there. Bound to be some "1970's Nan's Caravan" chic ;).

Maat · 23/03/2013 22:52

I think the wallpaper we had in the 70's is exactly the kind of print that you want. Grin
