...that makes babies exhausted?

I would really appreciate it if someone could explain it to me.

I read somewhere that babies sleep better at night if they are exposed to natural daylight and fresh air during the day.

Don't know - its proper cold outside but DS (5 weeks) conks out as soon as we step out the door. He won't sleep at all inside! Brrrr

GloriaPritchett · 22/03/2013 20:33

At the height of my sleep deprivation I was beginning to think there surely must have been Prozac fumes in the air Grin

mameulah · 22/03/2013 20:33

Well I walk quite regularly with our ds. Yesterday we went for a long brisk walk along the beach and today we went for a long brisk walk (nearly two hours) in the countryside.

He slept on todays walk. Then slept all afternoon. And was EXHAUSTED by bedtime. It must be something to do with cold air and his lungs surely??? I mean he is all bundled up and can't move under the covers so what else could be making him so tired?

Doesn't it take more energy to keep warm or vice versa to keep cool when you are outside? And if they mobile and not just sleeping, my kids always are more active outside, running, jumping, etc.
Being outdoors more is supposed to be very good for you aparently.

RenterNomad · 22/03/2013 20:41

Maybe it's that the metabolism has to work harder to keep them warm? I once lost loads of weight in a Russian winter!

mameulah · 22/03/2013 20:50

Oh, I never thought about it being anything to do with his metabolism. There was be an official reason, I just wonder what it is?

I think it triggers hormones - which links to metabolism.

At night if you are bfing your body releases sleepy hormones both to dc in milk and to you.

RainbowsFriend · 22/03/2013 22:40

Doesn't work with DD - going outside has always woken her up as there is more to see :(

But then she just doesn't like sleeping, and has always been a bit crap at it...

There was also some cabbage-eating involved, I must admit! But do your cabbage eating as borsch, and you'll he fine! Smile
