To ask a favour from Ds's teacher?

Rit, DS got a detention for messing around in class - half an hour after school tonight, assuming it stays open! No problems there, have told the teacher I fully support whatever punishment she chooses to give and told him to suck it up and stop messing in class.
BUT! It's blizzard conditions up here and the school bus is notorious for either dropping all the children off in the village centre or just not turning up in weather like this. The school is not on a normal bus run and neither are we. The car is currently a couple of hundred miles away and I have to pick up Dd from primary school. I also have a 1yo.
Would I be unreasonable to contact the teacher and ask her to defer the punishment till next week? Not let the detention go, just put it back so he isn't potentially walking 3 miles in fairly strong winds and snow? He's a tough lad (12yo) and I don't baby him but I frankly will be worried sick until he gets home

No, not unreasonable at all.

Sirzy · 22/03/2013 10:34

I think that makes a lot of sense given the weather (if its anything like it is here)

poppypebble · 22/03/2013 10:35

I'm a teacher and I'd have already made the decision that the detention was postponed in these conditions.

We are shut today though, so my Easter holidays have started early. Unfortunately I now have 25 Easter eggs sitting in my office that I can't give out!

It's bloody awful sirzy my first instinct when I opened the curtains this morning was to close them again, phone the kids in sick and get back in bed, but I am a hard Mum and made everyone get up Grin

Of course not. It sounds like the best solution to me.

In that case I would go as far as insisting that he came home as normal if they say no to your initial polite question.

GooseyLoosey · 22/03/2013 10:46

I would ask too - does not seem at all unreasonable to me.

poppypebble · 22/03/2013 10:46

kim unfortunately not. I got all the way to work this morning and sat on the road outside as I received text after text saying we were 'open' then 'shut' then 'open' then 'shut' before the caretaker came out and locked the gates, which I took as a good sign!

I'll have to give them to my form after Easter. Or go in during the holidays and eat them all.

Flobbadobs · 22/03/2013 10:50

Right, have left a message asking her to ring me back at some point today. Apparently she is a nice teacher so am hoping she'll be helpful. Thanks for that, didn't want to come across as soft or babying him.
poppy your pupils will love the extra treat after the holidays!
