Lellie b**y Kellie advert this morning!

Twee, sparkly canvas rubbish that comes with fake hair and make up!

And all for the extortionate bargain price of between £44.99-£54.99

Am I really that U for wanting to publicly flog someone and ban their brand from the shelves?

I remember being at university, and chatting to a mature student and her DD, about 5 / 6 yo. "I don't like Mcdonalds food because mummy says it tastes like cardboard".

I know it may not last for long, but "no DD, you're not having those shoes because they're badly made rubbish" ignoring the hair and makeup element (even if that's what you object to most) should do it.

Or just tell your DD that you never buy things because of adverts on the TV. Get your stall set out now before the rubbish Christmas toy adverts start.

GladbagsGold · 22/03/2013 09:29

My DC are trained that most adverts are full of lies and DD is particularly well trained that:

Lelli Kelly shoes are actually not very well made, but to make people want them, the manufacturers give things away with them, and put on adverts saying you 'have' to have them to be cool, because the manufacturers are greedy and want all our money. They don't care about girls having shoes that they can play in and have fun without getting sore/cold/wet feet, they don't care about girls being sad whose family can't afford the expensive shoes. They just want money money and more money!

Imagine my joy when MIL bought her a pair of the damn things.... Luckily Mummy Was Right and they were trashed in a week anyway...

anklebitersmum · 22/03/2013 09:42

I know (and so do the kids) that they're cheap rubbish and I wouldn't dream of buying them it's just the shoving of fake hair and make up down young girls throats I object to.

I mean, really? Do ad execs still think this is appropriate advertising?

I'm with you.

My children have learned the mantra that if they have to advertise it, you don't need it.

GladbagsGold my children are well trained in that type of thinking too Grin

GladbagsGold · 22/03/2013 09:56

I once went onto LK website forum to remark on the inappropriateness of giving away 'a free make up mobile' and got flamed by lots of mummies telling me girls like to be princesses and there's no harm in it. So sadly ad execs must find it works...

WorraLiberty · 22/03/2013 09:59

Do you know, my Mum trained me so well to ignore adverts that I genuinely don't even see them here on MN Grin

I seem to have a built in ad-blocker.

Flobbadobs · 22/03/2013 10:01

YANBU. DD likes to outprincess the princesses but doesn't want a pair of these, ever since my niece showed up in a pair she's really disliked them. They are so heavy, even the canvas pump style shoes are covered in beads which seems to make them all lumpy and ugly.
She did have a phase of asking me for a pair but I told her she couldn't wear them for playing out anywhere and she would have to stay sat down so she didn't get them mucky. This went down like a lead balloon as she's a very active girl and considering she's very pink and princessy she's a tomboy in many ways!
Ugly, ugly overpriced tat. I'd rather she got a pair of shoes from George that she can actually wear until they fall apart.

It doesn't surprise me Gladbags Sad I increasingly wonder what goes on in some peoples heads..guess I'm just getting to that age

Good grief GB

Same here Worra Grin

GladbagsGold · 22/03/2013 13:17

I must be at that age too.. FFS their website has a section 'for mothers' to reassure them about quality. Obviously not relevant to dads eh.

Meh! It's some pretend hair on a clip, just like you can buy from Claire's or any supermarket clothes section, and some coloured lipgloss.

Dd had LK pumps and boots when she was smaller. Yes they were sparkly and glittery but she loved them. They fit well and were very hard wearing, leather inners and otters, etc - lasted another child afterwards too. They were no dearer than the other makes in the shoe shop either.

Fwiw dd hadn't seen any adverts for them either. She saw them in the shop and liked them. Didn't even know the free gift was there til we got them.

Dd is 10 now and out of that phase. Now has a very cool pair of docs instead. She doesn't seem too harmed by her ownership of said LKs or the plastic tat accompanying them,

Hulababy · 22/03/2013 13:23

Oh and dd was no little princess type. She was just a small child who liked sparkles. And her little male friends liked them as much as she did, and they liked the lip gloss too!

Still very meh about the whole thing tbh.

Hulababy · 22/03/2013 13:27

Floppados - why would they prevent her from being active? They are pumps with glitter and beads. Dd tore around in the same as every other shoe or boot she had, climbing, running, scouting, playing, whatever. I never once sought to tell her she shouldn't or that they must be kept pristine.

Besides like other canvas stuff, bung them in a pillowcase and pop in washer and they're fine.

wonderstuff · 22/03/2013 13:36

Dd wanted these when she saw the ad this morning. No, no, no, expensive rubbish was my response. Glad I'm not alone. I like the if they have to advertise its rubbish line, will persuade dd this is the case. Had milkshake on this am and every 5 mins, I want that, I want that..

anklebitersmum · 22/03/2013 13:48

Loving the simple explanation on the Mother bit Gladbags maybe there's a secret bit where it's more technical for Dads Grin
