Is it an inside joke I'm not in on or something?

Grin pseudo, while we're waiting for some examples of this: H&S is always only sensible and reasonable and never ever EVER goes to an extreme of stupidity or dangerousness I'll offer this take- H&S legislation is sometimes used as an excuse for things not happening (cost of insurance, special equipment staff ratios too onerous). People like to moan about 'the man'. If complying with H&S legislation some people may chose to go under the radar.
WishIdbeenatigermum · 22/03/2013 08:23

Last sentence should read 'if complying is too difficult some people may chose to go under the radar.
Still waiting for soup's examples of stupidity and danger.

It's because of that cunt Littledick and his hilarious columns about The Sweeney and other things that used to be popular 35 years ago like police corruption and industrial accidents.

Latara · 22/03/2013 08:25

At work our hoists & other equipment is checked regularly to comply with H&S type legislation.

Adjustments have been made to the hoists to make them easier & safer to use for staff & for the patients that need hoisting.

Just another positive example of hundreds.

Yes, like this one:

"Case 117 - Holiday cot beds were not made up due to health & safety

Issue
A family went for a short break to a holiday park and had been told prior to arriving that all beds would be made up. When they arrived they found that the cot had not been made up. When staff were questioned they replied that the cot beds were not made up because of health and safety.

Panel decision
There is no health and safety regulation which prevents any hotel from providing cot linen or from making up the cot. The holiday park have taken a decision not to do this for other (unknown) reasons and make clear on their website that this is their policy. They should also ensure that their staff stop using health and safety as a convenient excuse to give to customers."

And of course, if there is a tragic accident due to lack of H&S they start with their other favorite cliche - the "something must be done" stories.

PseudoBadger · 22/03/2013 08:28

Yes Latara, that's good and is as described here

PseudoBadger · 22/03/2013 08:30

Slurry pit deaths are a good example of that I think ISpy

WishIdbeenatigermum · 22/03/2013 12:08

Shame souphasnt been back with examples of ridiculous and dangerous examples of H&S legislation. Hmm

ChairmanWow · 22/03/2013 12:24

pseudo thanks for that link. Excellent work from the HSE to hit back at misuse of H&S legislation.

PseudoBadger · 22/03/2013 12:51

It's great isn't it! It really does illustrate firstly how little people understand what H&S really is, and how easy it is to use it as a catch all just because for example to do something costs a bit or takes a bit of work.
