To be surprised at amount of "botox on TV"

I accidentally saw Crimewatch this evening, and saw a woman I vaguely recognised ... but it was hard to tell at first (apart from the voice). It was Kirsty Young presenting an item on the show. But her face looked frozen/mask-like, and I'd bet a tenner she'd had botox. I saw another female journalist on TV the other day who'd also clearly had botox. Is this now common practice for all women over 35 on TV?

The men have it too. Ant from Ant and Dec has clearly had some. Not a single line on his eighthead.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 20/03/2013 22:19

I think so - did you see Olivia Newton John Shock

giveitago · 20/03/2013 22:20

Is this the forehead stuff?

WorraLiberty · 20/03/2013 22:21

Dear lord have you not noticed that this is very common in both sexes?

I remember watching Celeb Big Brother one year.

Nearly everyone in the whole house had a furious drunken argument where security had to be called in.

Yet not a single eyebrow was raised throughout Grin

SucksToBeMe · 20/03/2013 22:22

I just had to zoom on to Abbey Clancy's face/lip today. She looks like a duck! She's a stunning girl, who needs no medical intervention Hmm

Dinosaurhunter · 20/03/2013 22:23

Worra - that made me laugh !

WorraLiberty · 20/03/2013 22:26

Ahh but did you manage to raise a smile without hiring a crane, Dinosaurhunter?

babanouche · 20/03/2013 22:30

YANBU I think it's totally creepy the way these presenters seem to morph. Sian Lloyd is the strangest, I think. But they don't get work otherwise, I guess. I have some actress friends on facebook, not famous, just jobbing actors, and I'm sure they're at it too.

mrdarceych · 20/03/2013 22:30

Was just discussing that very thing... How old is Mary Nightingale??!

OhLori · 20/03/2013 22:33

Yes, I am beginning to find it a bit creepy as you say babanouche, in a Stepford Wives way. I am also feeling a bit "Am I on planet earth?" about it Hmm

Two words: Felicity Kendall Confused

Well if she looks like a duck she might want some intervention, no?

GaryBarlowsPants · 20/03/2013 22:37

YY blackbird Olivia Newton John looked scary. Watched a recent You Tube video of Madonna giving a speech and thought that she's morphing into her Spitting Image puppet. It's such a shame that even 'Madonna' feels under pressure to hide the inevitable signs of aging.
I'm rather proud of my crows feet and moving eyebrows but absolutely do not accept the grey hairs

babanouche · 20/03/2013 22:38

OhLori, my OH has a theory that in 20/30 years time, people like me who haven't had work done (if I hold out) will be revered for our natural saggy bits beauty.

aldiwhore · 20/03/2013 22:48

YABU to be surprised.

YouTheCat · 20/03/2013 22:49

By the sounds of it, you're lucky to be able to look surprised. Think of those poor botoxed buggers who can't.

QuickLookBusy · 20/03/2013 22:54

My neighbour's sister has had "work done". Her face does not move, at all.

It's quite terrifying, yet I cannot take my eyes off her. She must think I'm very rude.

Nothing wrong with Botox. It is the only thing that has been proven to get rid of wrinkles. Saves money on all the fad creams! X

YouTheCat · 20/03/2013 23:03

I save money twice then. I buy basic moisturiser and don't have botox. Hmm

babanouche · 20/03/2013 23:04

SucksToBeMe · 20/03/2013 23:56

Give it a go Grin

Post op photo that is!

YouTheCat · 20/03/2013 23:59

Why not fool people into think you've had botox by remaining completely expressionless? Grin

raisah · 21/03/2013 01:54

Botox is being trailled as a migraine remedy. Migraine sufferers who had it done for cosmetic reasons noticed that they didnt suffer from attacks. An unexpected but positive side effect of botox.

MrsLion · 21/03/2013 08:17

YANBU. Im sure they have all had it. Botox is extremely common. 9 people I know personally have had it. Including my 68 year old mil- and they're just the ones who admit to it. Only one of them looked frozen though. Actually she looked more like a startled, frozen rabbit. She had too much done and has sworn she's never getting it again.
Everyone else looked natural, could move eyebrows, just not a huge amount.

It's not unusual at all here, as people have been ravaged by harsh sun since birth and tbh they do actually look a lot older than they are, especially compared to Brits. I am constantly told I have great skin (its not that good) and sometimes get IDd for booze. I'm 35 ffs.
I have no reservations about getting some when my frown line becomes permanent and makes me look permanently angry!
