To want to put fleece pj's on the dogs tonight?

Our boiler packed in 2 days ago Sad parts are on order.

We have thank god got a toasty real flame gas fire thingy in the sitting room that has been chucking out heat when we've been here, but will be turned off when we go up to bed.

Last night wasn't too bad but temp has really dropped tonight and I've just been upstairs for a wee and it's fucking freezing!

We have 2 shortish haired dogs that sleep on comfy duvet beds (or sneak onto the sofa) but I'm contemplating putting their fleece jim jams on overnight. DP thinks I'm being mental and trust me he is a softie where they are concerned.

Just worry that come 3 or 4 in the morning once the heat from the fire has subsided they'll be cold and I will lie awake worrying about them curling up in the spare bed with them

What the cocking fck are dog fleece jim jams and do they come in plaid or stripes?

WorraLiberty · 20/03/2013 21:38

No don't, they won't be able to wash themselves or scratch properly.

You have my sympathy though as my boiler packed up nearly 4 weeks ago and is finally being replaced on Tuesday.

Just chuck them some blankets and they'll burrow under them if they need to.

ChasingDogs · 20/03/2013 21:40

YABVVVU. If it's that cold upstairs then obviously you have to take them to bed with you. You'll be warmer, they'll be warmer, and more importantly, they'll be spared the indignity of fleecy doggy coats. Grin

Hot water bottle wrapped in old pillow case???? That is what the cat gets.
The pony however, has about 4 rugs on, including a 10 tog tartan duvet type one.

How big are their beds? Can they snuggle together?

gemma4d · 20/03/2013 21:47

My first greyhound always slept with a fleece bed jacket in the winter. He had an annoying tendency to loose weight - this was one of several things which I did to keep him the right weight.

ChasingDogs · 20/03/2013 21:48

Oh, tollyandfeste, you've just reminded me of a childhood friend! Her show pony used to have actual duvets under her stable rug to keep her warm and stop the winter coat coming through! It used to make me feel bad for our natives, who were shoved out bare, and got an ancient wax turn-out if it was really awful out. The shettie/welsh cross froze to the ground once, and it took us a couple of hours to notice that he wasn't bothering with the hay we'd chucked out. Shock Blush

...or Lose.

tollyandfeste · 20/03/2013 21:49

Gemma, I LOVE that your Greyhound had a fleece bed jacket. I really would like a rescue Greyhound as my next dog, and now that they have fleece bed jackets that seals it for me :@)

specialsubject · 20/03/2013 21:49

the horse froze to the ground?

sorry, shouldn't laugh but I am...

ChasingDogs · 20/03/2013 21:51

We laughed too, after we went out to see what the problem was, and unfroze him of course. Blush.

He had icicles hanging off his mane! Though tbf if you stuck your hand in his coat, he was toasty warm under all the hair Grin

tollyandfeste · 20/03/2013 21:55

Oh no, chasing dogs, frozen to the ground. Ah bless Poor little Shettie. I am sure he was fine though. I must confess I used to put duvets under my ponies rugs until you could buy (or I could afford!!) the fancy under rugs you can get now. I must confess though my first pony, who was 26 had one of those ancient wax turn outs that rubbed his poor little chest bald :@( He lived to 38 though so I guess those hard winters did hardy him up, bless him.

livinginwonderland · 20/03/2013 22:00

i shouldn't be laughing at a horse frozen to the ground, but that image is just hilarious!

Scuttlebutter · 20/03/2013 22:02

Four greyhounds here, all of whom wear beautiful fleece coats at night. You can get some very stylish ones in a whole rainbow of colours. here, for example

MissBetseyTrotwood · 20/03/2013 22:02

Our ex racing grey has fleecy pjs. Made by a lovely MNetter.

Large and active pointy thread over on Doghouse should you need a prod towards adopting a 45mph couch potato. Grin

villagegossip · 20/03/2013 22:04

Grin "what the cocking" they are fleece jackets that they wear in the truck after working or a wet walk in the winter whilst I'm in the pub

I'm probabaly being a twat but I hate being cold so I'm probably projecting onto them.

DP won't let them on our bed overnight - only for lie-ins Hmm

My horse has been wrapped up tonight too - no chance of her freezing into the ground but that's what shetties are built for!

Am lolling also at pony frozen to ground. I imagine him being vaguely puzzled and indignant at the same time!
Dogs will be fine I'm sure without fleece pyjamas.

ChasingDogs · 20/03/2013 22:07

Aye he was fine, wouldn't be much of a shettie if he couldn't survive a few hours frozen to the ground I guess Blush.

Ack, I remember those awful bald patches on the chest. Yay for modern rugs with padding around the shoulders and such. Although the wax was so hard to rip... sigh.

LandofTute · 20/03/2013 22:43

Cuddle your dogs under your duvet and make your dp sleep on the sofa (with no fleece jim jams on.)

WestieMamma · 20/03/2013 22:58

My little monster got scalped by the groomer last week. Now that it's blooming freezing again he has to wear a coat at night otherwise he shivers with cold. :(
