A family member has posted the below:

BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT £6,000
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS / REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT £29,900
The average pensioner has paid taxes and contribute d to the growth of this country for the last 40 to 60 years.
Sad isn't it?

This was posted by a close, well-loved, family member but I feel the need to post a reply as I believe the post to be uninformed and prejudice.

Any ideas?

This awful, racist shyte has started appearing on my FB too. So far 5 people have been deleted this week. It has been an eye-opener to see just who has posted it though because I thought I knew my friends rather better.

It makes me Angry and Sad at how many of the people posting this garbage are fairly young. I know it shouldn't make a difference, but I'd just think that they'd be more used to being a multicultural society and be able to tell an Internet hoax when they saw one.

When I gave birth a few months ago, I was most perplexed to get a visit from the hospital's 'overseas visitors team'. They told me that I had to provide various forms of proof of residency (passport/tenancy agreement etc) or I would be sent a bill for my hospital care.

As a lifelong UK resident, I was totally stumped at being asked to do this. When I told a midwife, she explained (after she stopped laughing) that there are lots of overseas visitors who give birth at that hospital, and that they have to pay for their care. So it seems that this idea that the NHS is a big free for all is a bit of a myth.

In the end I discovered that the reason I'd been flagged up on the system was because I'd recently moved from Scotland to England, and therefore I had a relatively new English NHS number. This was explained to me by the receptionist at my GP a few weeks later. One of her colleagues said, 'Oh, so THAT'S how they're catching them these days!'

This rubbish has been regurgitated over and over again on Facebook. I had a friend who believed this shite and despite my attempts to explain the facts, she persisted in her vile opinions. One of which was that every single person who was not white and British should be deported back to their country of origin.
I asked her, if she felt so strongly about it, did she refuse to see doctors, nurses, consultants who were not white and British. Did she refuse to be served in shops by people who were not white and British?
Her reply was 'That's different.' How?
I wonder how many of the uneducated people with these foul opinions refuse to accept being served or treated by the people they believe shouldn't be in this country?
Do they refuse to allow their children to be treated or served or taught by non white British people?
I think not.
Absolutely vile, hence this friend is no longer a friend.
I have argued on Facebook about this rubbish before. The people who believe it continue believing it. Now I just block and delete.

It may be pointless but it can be amusing.

The one I'm having is silly I'm challenging all the nonsense by copy and pasting dwp rules and he is chopping and changing from everything being 'given on a plate by the council' then when I put the actual rule in changing it to buying loads with the wads of cash and adding FACT onto the end of everything.

Its laughable but they are making themselves look like a prat.

Oh, I saw one of these that really pissed me off! It was along the lines of 'In North Korea they shoot illiegal immigrants, in Afghanistan they get beheaded and in the UK they get shit load of benefits' Aaargh! I didn't know where to begin with how stupid that is! Even if it were true, is North Korea the kind of place you want to model yourself on?! It knew these people were dim, but I had thought nice but dim. They are my husband's friends and he asked me not to say anything, so I just deleted them.

What really gets me is the idea people have that ALL asylum seekers come to Britain. As if no one else will look after them so they all keep going till they get here. Loads of European countries take and support proportionally more asylum seekers than we do.

I got a response, but it was from a family member of the person who posted the racist shite. The response being that I didn't know anything and should live in the real world. Ffs.

I haven't deleted the person who posted it because I think she's not very well informed and I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and also because if I ding her then there will be fall out with other friends.

So I'm just biding my time.

I've had this shit sent to me too. When I challenged him the response was "Get in the real world...I'm not racist -loads of my workmates are foreign... we are the laughing stock of the world etc. Today there is another post from him. It is a vile EDL poster talking of immigrant rapists ffs, complete with a picture of a white woman being gang raped by three black men! He told me I need to protect my children from this! I am so worked up about this, I know I should just let it go but I really want to send a brilliant reply. I know his mind will never be changed if he is quoting BNP and EDL shit - but hopefully some of his friends might be influenced and realise he is a twat? Please help.

That Keep Calm Britain page is a good one. Plenty of facts to share on it.

I put a message on the other day saying I was utterly sick of the shite that's polluting my wall. And that if you share it, not only will I probably think you're a racist, I'll think you're pretty ignorant too. But I definitely won't admire you for having 'the guts' to repost some shite that you've not researched to check if it's even true.

Loads of people liked it, including one person I'd challenged over the pensioner/ asylum seeker post. I've also hidden their updates, but not deleted them... yet.

While it's hard and wearisome to respond, I think if you're going to block people, it's a good idea to post some sort of response first, just so they know why you're no linger their 'friend'. Get yourself a stock response you're happy with, and use it every time.

I deleted a few on Thu Crabby, then saw it again and again so last night posted on my own wall that I was sick of seeing it, it was made up bollocks and I was deleting everyone that posted it. Deleted another couple (one the mum of my best mate, which made me Sad) and I'm going to post a link to Amber's link shortly.

I've seen a few snidey PA posts since last night that are obviously aimed at me, but I'm happy to ignore them for now.
