to exepct clean mattress covers in a holiday cottage

returned from a holiday somewhere we go roughly once a year and know the owners now.

We are expected to strip the bed on leaving. Did so and yuck- mattress cover had seen lots of sexual antics judging by stains- and not from us.

I just find this so yucky. This particular cottage looks clean and all laundry is done on site so I can't see why it's not done as part of the weekly clean/ re-let.

AIBU to expect mattress covers to be changed in between rentals if they are not left spotless by previous occupants?

In this case I don't know if the owner who lives on site did the cleaning or their cleaner/ housekeeper so it may be her fault.

If they make the beds up before you arrive then I would definitely leave a note to say that you were really upset to discover when you stripped the beds to find the mattress covers in such a horrible condition - you don't want them turning around and blaming you for them (and taking money from your deposit or whatever) just to add insult to injury.

But no - YANBU - would expect them to be clean. Maybe if they looked in pristine condition (as they would say if my 7 yr old ds had slept on them - I don't need to wash his every time I change his bed) and they were really short on time or something then they could get away with re-using (but it would still be a bit yuk) - but if they were obviously stained and horrible then absolutely they should change them - very horrible and gross to discover you've been sleeping on somebody else's stains! euwwwwh.

Very tricky and too late with hindsight. The owner is not exactly a friend, but he greets us like old friends as we have stayed there for 20 years off and on. This is the first time we have noticed this though to be honest the stripping beds is a new-ish thing. Yes, beds all made up on our arrival.

If we go back though I will think hard on this and take your advice.

Yuck to think he may blame us for the state of them Blush

You want to try living in university accommodation. My bed has a new occupant every year and is easily decades old. God knows how many one night stands have taken place in it.

The mattress is hideous, I've got 3 mattress covers on it. I don't even want to think about it.
