to the evening do of a wedding? DH's friends are getting married and sent out invitation to people to come celebrate with them in the evening. I've only been to one wedding reception and I think I did take a gift along that time. I don't know if you're really just meant to buy gifts if you are invited to the actual wedding as well as the evening reception or gifts regardless. We haven't been presented with a list of gift ideas but I assume that lists are specifically for people who are invited to the wedding - just worried about what's expected.

I've been to a few evening do's an I took nice photo frame or small (weddingy) album as a nice gesture. John Lewis is perfect for this and they have always been well received

Our Day guests were just close family - I am one of 7 and OH one of 6 by the time you add in our parents, their partners and their offspring, that came to as many as the registry office could hold and we had a meal with just those. That was about 50 people. We then invited another 100 or so to the evening event. We received tons of gifts, everything from Crystal and kitchenware ( a couple of Woks, some nice pans, blender & mixer) to towels, china and linen. Plus cash and gift vouchers. We needed an extra room to store it all at the hotel and two taxis to get it all home.......I thought that was pretty normal and seems similar to any weddings I have been to before.
