She has a raised temp, 38.5 (she is normally under 37), a bit of a nasty cough and she looks pale.

BUT she is a acting normally as in as typically annoying as your average 5yr old

So I phoned her in sick to school, but now I am a bit Hmm because she's not acting ill particularly.

But otoh she's one of those children who almost never acts ill. I've taken her to the docs before with a massive temp and raging tonsillitis and she proceeds to dance for them Angry

AIBU for keeping her off even though she seems OK?

(OH and I are wfh so we're each taking half a day to watch her so not really an issue)

If she feels fine despite having symptoms and she won't make herself worse by overdoing it at school more than she would at home, then I can't see the point in keeping her off. Being ill doesn't always prevent you from getting on with things.

Keep her off if sending her in would be too uncomfortable for her, disrupt school, prolong her sickness, or likely make other kids sick. But there's nothing inherently dangerous about doing things while you have an illness.

But YANBU to use your judgement to keep her off - you're her mother, it's your call.

Gargle with oraldene if she is able ( not sure on the age) great stuff and was my saviour until I had tonsils removed at 23.

Thanks all.

I've left her at home with DH while I pop into the office and he's just rang to say she's gone for a nap which is practically unheard of Shock

So I guess keeping her off was for the best after all phew

Our school would tell you to give paractamol and send her in, they'll call if the needs you.

On the antib thing; its the bugs that become resistant, not the person, so you refusing them(when you need them) will make no difference if they're being over used by the population generally
