Swearing in year 3!

Am I asking too much from dd school to address the use of the f word by the 8 year old boys in her class. The same boys who keep telling her they want sex! These boys apparently have call of duty on the Xbox -bought by their parents rated aged 18. Where are their childhoods? Where is their innocence?Angry

YANBU but I think them telling her they want sex is a more urgent issue to tackle really!

StuntGirl · 17/03/2013 20:52

Nope, NBU. I would ask to speak to the class teacher.

Eebahgum · 17/03/2013 20:54

I agree with sirzy. God, I wish parents wouldn't let children play age inappropriate computer games. It messes with their brain development.

nannyof3 · 17/03/2013 20:54

Sounds like to need to talk to ur daughter about 'unwanted touching'

inabit · 17/03/2013 20:56

Sirzy initially dealt with the sex issue although little bugger denied it! Teacher had we thought sorted it but this language has continued. Teacher said not in her remit what they do at home my feelings are that if it affects kids in school then it is their business. Waiting for meeting with head just needed a bit of confirmation that I'm right to be annoyed. The boys parents haven't even been brought in!

Cheeky Little boys have enjoyed using swear words long before Bill Gates was even a twinkle in his father's eye!

Sirzy · 17/03/2013 20:59

The school can tell the child off, they can talk to the parents (which they should have) but they can't dictate what is being done out of school. Its annoying and frustrating for schools but its impossible for them to control

You should hear my yr 4&6 sometimes!!! We don't swear at home , they are only allowed to watch age appropriate games/ movies etc! They go to a naice Church of England school!
But they know more swear/ sex words than me!! It's been made very clear that this is not appropriate at home or at school....but I betcha they use them as soon as I am out of earshot!

Buzzardbird · 17/03/2013 21:38

I was informed yesterday that teachers are not allowed to tell children off for swearing in class? Please tell me my (both teachers) dsis and dsil were winding me up?

pointythings · 17/03/2013 21:48

It doesn't get any better - DD1 is in Yr7 and has to deal with boys asking her for blowjobs. Fortunately she told her form tutor and the boy in question was excluded, but it's horrifying. There are some truly shit parents around.

WorraLiberty · 17/03/2013 21:51

What I'm about to say is neither relevant nor helpful but...

I read the thread title and thought, 'Do kids have to be sworn in now, like with some sort of ceremony? In my day we just moved up from the Infants to the Juniors without all that fuss'.

Grin Blush

thezebrawearspurple · 17/03/2013 22:01

The sex talk is a concern, exposure violent video games very worrying, swearing not a big deal and a diversion from the real issues with these boys.

pointythings · 17/03/2013 22:15

I agree, zebra - experimenting with language - not a problem. Sexualised talk - big problem.

My DDs are very 'young' - the most violent thing they are allowed to play is Mariokart.

Floggingmolly · 17/03/2013 23:30

Teacher said not in her remit what they do at home
It's what they're doing in the classroom that's your concern, surely, and it is most certainly within her remit to deal with it there.

Swearing is not the biggest deal there, thezebra, but it is an issue that needs addressing - 8 year olds swearing in class? They'd be instantly suspended at our school.

bangwhizz · 17/03/2013 23:43

an 8 yo boy would be suspended for swearing???

FelicityWasCold · 17/03/2013 23:47

They were either winding you up or are working at shit schools.

At my school aggressive swearing (eg, telling another child to 'fuck off') in a lesson warrants a Saturday morning detention. (Secondary btw).

I will grant you that my place is particularly strict, but it isn't tolerated in any good schools.

BegoniaBampot · 18/03/2013 00:39

Many kids this age, maybe a year or two older play COD, the majority of boys in my sons class (age10) do and have done for the past year or so. It's not unusual or a sign that the parents are shit.

Startail · 18/03/2013 01:18

I don't think swearing or sexual comments were tolerated in any year at primary, Y5 certainly got in trouble.

Swearing seems to be tolerated at senior school although I assume not at the teachers.

Aggressive swearing at your sibling or parent gets you sent to your room here, swearing jokingly or at animate objects is fine in moderation.

I used to be a research student, swearing at non functioning equipment and non working experiments was a daily occurrence, although the prof did it louder.

Startail · 18/03/2013 01:20

inanimate objects clearly, the only non human creatures here are fish, I don't thing they'd care.

threesypeesy · 18/03/2013 07:42

Kids pick up things easily i think yabvu to judge a parent or think it's their fault they may not know what their dcs are saying out of ear shot!! I don't think computer games are to blame either boys have always swore and talked like this before cod

I would complain about sexual remarks made directly at your dd that's unacceptable however another child swearing is really none of your business
