I was on the phone to DM and was commenting I was feeding DS (18 weeks) and I said,
"he tries to sit up if you sit him in your arms , and his grips getting better he holds his teethers and he copies me holding his bottle' like gripping his hands round mine.

My DM went off on " you still have to feed him though, you still have to hold the bottle thats important!"
and then said in a semi jokey way "He probably doesn't trust you to feed him, that's why"
I was Hmm this is my second too, AIBU to this was mean?

You may be over-reacting a bit but its a little undermining. I would just ignore her. Does she normally dig at you like that?

whimsicalmess · 17/03/2013 13:44

Sort of yes , but this was quite Shock took me back a bit, the assumption that my 4 month old baby gripping his bottle would mean I would just leave him to feed himself?

I felt maybe wrongly that she was inferring neglect.irresponsible behaviour etc/

She probably forgot that you are an adult and perfectly capable of caring for a baby!

I remember going to visit my cousin's baby (I was about 23 and a qualified nurse) and, when I had a cuddle, my mum was all over me telling me to "watch his head, Ani" with me thinking, for goodness sake, mother, I do know how to hold a baby. Payback time came when it was Mum's turn for a newborn cuddle and my Gran did exactly the same thing to her!!

LittleBairn · 17/03/2013 15:40

The second comment sounds like a bit of a dig. I agree some mothers take awhile to realise their 'baby' is now a parent too.

zwischenzug · 17/03/2013 15:47

YABU not to have made a sarcy retort to shut her up.

Aniseeda · 17/03/2013 15:49

Yes, I forgot to say, I sometimes have to force myself to zip my mouth where my 18 year old is concerned. I am desperately wanting to give him all sorts of advice on things but see him roll his eyes, and know exactly what he is thinking!

She might have realised her first comment was daft and tried (and failed) to make a joke out of it.

whimsicalmess · 17/03/2013 20:00

Perhaps that's it,like a hamfisted comeback.
I'm not quite as Hmm now,
