Panicked shouting from upstairs, so I go and investigate

"Mum, can you help me? I'm stuck in the cupboard under my bed"

My kids have cabin beds and underneath there are 4 cupboards about 18 inches square.

My 7 year old managed to get herself wedged in there.

Why would you even get in there in the first place?

You would get in there because you are seven, and that's your job!

SirBoobAlot · 16/03/2013 13:51

That's an invitation to a seven year old. I would have certainly tried.

Ahh, memories of cabin beds...

cozietoesie · 16/03/2013 13:52

What - completely inside?

Shock
freddiefrog · 16/03/2013 13:58

Yes, curled up in a ball right inside the cupboard. She had her arms trapped and couldn't push herself out.

Theyre not very high beds, and the cupboard only goes half way into the bed if you see what I mean

I never had a cabin bed so I clearly missed out.

They've only had them a week so the novelty of small cupboards hasn't worn off yet

Because it has to be done at least once! I had a bed similar to your DD's by the sound of it but with a pull out desk, behind there was my den for years!

Nagoo · 16/03/2013 14:46

Ds says his favourite place is wedged under his bed. :)

Boomboomboomboom · 16/03/2013 14:52

one of my children did this, but in a drawer of the divan bed at age four. I shudder to think what might have happened if I had not heard the noise

Maat · 16/03/2013 14:56

Same thing happened here with DS1's bed that has slidey doors in the base.

Except it was his friend that had got stuck.

His friend was 16 and nearly six foot!

It might be a while before the novelty wears off Grin

I once had a mad panic in the middle of the night. I'd gone to check on kids before I went to bed and couldn't find ds anywhere (ASD and prone to wandering). I checked in his bed, under it, in his sister's and under that. Checked my own room, bathroom - everywhere.

Went back to his room and heard a snuffling. He'd fallen asleep, curled up, in his ottoman (on top of the toys) and he'd pulled the lid down.

thegreylady · 16/03/2013 16:56

My dd used to 'run away' if we told her off.she would pack her case with a jar of marmite,a pair of knickers and her toy fox. She would tell us she was moving to Grandma's [150 miles away] then off she would go-aged 4/5/6.
She would go out the front door and in the back door-up the stairs and into the big drawer under her bed where she would lie dipping her finger in the marmite and sucking it while listening to me becoming hysterical and organising a search party of the neighbourhood. She always walked in just as we were setting off having searched the house. It was 25 years before I learned where she had been!
It must have happened a couple of times a year at least.

Maat · 16/03/2013 17:00

thegreylady Wouldn't life be wonderful if all we needed was a jar of marmite, a pair of knickers and a toy fox? Grin

mrsjay · 16/03/2013 17:02

cos she is 7 and it is a hidey hole or a den or anything Grin dd once got herself jammed in her chest of drawers she emptied it climbed in and shut it over all i could here was muffled muuuuuuuum had to take the other drawers out to get her out

maddening · 16/03/2013 18:18

I remember liking hidey holes and dens :)

Ilovexmastime · 16/03/2013 19:06

My two are often to be found inside their (small) wardrobes and DS1 once spent the night sleeping on his desk. I didn't even bother to ask why, sometimes they just have to experience something.

Sunnywithshowers · 16/03/2013 19:13

I used to hide in the airing cupboard for a bit of peace and quiet when I was a kid. It was lovely.

When we went on holiday we had a caravan - all was fine until I realised ds (almost 2) was nowhere to be found. We looked everywhere we could think of and were really panicking when I shut a door and discovered another, teensy door behind if, opened it and dd was in there standing up jut staring straight ahead. She didn't shout for me or giggle or anything. Sometimes I wonder if she just wanted some peace from ds

BeaWheesht · 16/03/2013 19:19

We lost dd not ds he'd never be so quiet!
