to think this is the stupidest place ever to leave a parcel?

This morning, a Hermes delivery man called round with a parcel for us.

DH & I were both out, so no-one in to accept the parcel. Because it's bin day and recycling week, our recycling wheelie bin was at the end of the drive, waiting for the binmen to come along and empty it.

For whatever crazy reason, the Hermes man decided that the best thing to do with our parcel was to leave it in the as yet unemptied wheelie bin. And then he helpfully posted one of those cards through the door. "Sorry I missed you - your parcel was left in the..... Bin"

Luckily for the parcel, DH went home early because he was feeling very ill (not lucky for DH), and rescued the parcel before the bin men turned up - they get to our house quite late on, also luckily.

But really. Surely most delivery people would think "Hmm. There's a bin at the end of almost every driveway on this road. Perhaps it's bin day? Better not leave the parcel in the bin, just in case."

AIBU to think that this deliveryman is completely brainless?

lay sorry! Grin Happened yesterday. I was quite pleased to be honest because it meant not having to drag two feverish children to the post office depot.

thegreylady, that's a bit beyond the call of duty. Shock And surely illegal!

It's the Royal Mail 'you owe us money' cards that get me. More often than not always it's my mother who sticks one stamp on, regardless of envelope size. The Royal Mail web site where you can pay online is so user unfriendly. So much facing around because it is 10 p underpaid.

We've had parcels left UNDER our car... Luckily I dropped my keys and noticed them. Hmm

Loulybelle · 15/03/2013 21:51

Under your car, jeez, where do they get these people.

I had a book from amazon delivered to my parents house by Yodel, we saw yer man pull up, come down drive, Mum went to front door, the fecker went the side door and shoved under the mat on a wet step in pissing rain and legged it before Mum got to side door! Book ruined, just got a replacement in time via royal mail.. The Yodel guy who delivers here is a miserable bigger but generally leave the nappies somewhere dry if we're not about. My old postie rgulaly used to sgn for stuff:O

We've not often had parcels-in-bins, thankfully, but frequently have them left on our front doorstep in full view of the road. For some reason the flowerbed by the front door is also a popular choice: when Superpostie hides things there (or indeed anywhere else!) he makes sure they're protected from the elements & gives full location details on the parcel slip. Less amused by the eejit who thought the best place for a (huge & INCREDIBLY heavy) parcel of stuff for the kittens was in that flowerbed just by the drainpipe. On a day where we'd non-stop rain. Was somewhat less than overjoyed to have to try to lug the thing out & get it indoors without it falling apart and/or coating myself/the house in mud. Ugh. Suppose am lucky it was JUST mud & nothing worse!

I once had to chase a postman down the road to demand that he give me my parcel. He didn't knock, just put a slip through saying he'd tried to deliver but I was out & had to go to the parcel office. He just hadn't fancied carrying anything more than letters up the road so had chanced houses being empty/resided in by elderly people who'd believe they'd not heard the knock & just stuck parcel slips through all the doors. I was still in my PJs & had stuck on the wellies I keep by the door as first footwear to hand so must have looked like a total loon haranguing the man for Dishonest Practice & Selfishness. He refused to bring me the parcel. Then refused to give me his name so I could make a complaint, but grudgingly agreed to bring me the parcel. I walked him down to where he'd left it to ensure he didn't (as he'd clearly intended to) just bog off...

This has reminded me I need to order more food & other bits for the kittens. Although one of the companies I order from use a delivery company who text you to give you a window of time in which your parcel is going to appear & let you text to rearrange delivery/have it taken to depot/have a neighbour take it in for you! It is a wonderful WONDERFUL thing. Especially as I've lovely & completely trustworthy neighbours who're willing to take in parcels for me...

I had cards from three parcels. They were apparently left in our 'secure porch'. We don't have a porch, secure or otherwise. We were on holiday at the time, back over a week later Confused

This thread has just reminded me of a parcel we got just before Christmas... opposite kind of story tho.
A brown paper-wrapped parcel was left in the porch (yes, we do have a porch and it is an appropriate place to leave parcels!!) but there was no label on it, just a handwritten note from a wonderful postman saying 'label came off in the van but it said (our address) honest!' and a smiley face!
It was for the kids for Christmas and was an 80's toy from ebay so not something we could have got replaced or re-sent if it was lost. I was so grateful!
