It bloody hurts! Posted here for traffic

I've not knocked it or anything and it suddenly starting hurting on Sunday. It's only very slightly swollen but I can't bear weight on it and it throbs and movement is difficult.

Now I'm lying in bed and my whole foot is throbbing and sore.

The toe is without a nail following a door slamming incident by my brother when I was ten, the pain is more behind my toe if that makes sense.

Im gonna have to get it checked aren't I? I hate going to the doctors, especially when it looks like a normal toe!

You really do have gout. Don't look at the picture on Wikipedia.

coatonarack · 14/03/2013 21:35

Riply, you have a rare cindition called pus faceitis.

Were - doesnt sound like gout then, thats supposed to be like walking on broken glass. See the doc x

Ivor What??? Grin Confused

5Foot5 · 15/03/2013 00:09

Do not google your symptoms. Every time I have ever done this I find I sel-diagnose with something terminal.

Just go to your gp.

Doesn't sound like gout. Does sound like gout. Looks like a big toe. Hurts like a big toe that hurts. FFS get thee to the quacks.

Please?! Grin

I has a non-alcoholic husband with gout - still can't diagnose... are you an utter twat when it hurts? In which case, you're probably male.Or not. Or are an married to me, does it hurt when I stamp on it? Does sympathy comfort it?

Hope you feel better soon after you've taken the correct course of action of course.

I am no medical bod, but I have a distant memory of reading something about rapid weight loss leading to gout.

It could also be a chilblain, which I have just developed about 8 of, but they are hot and sore to begin with.

WaterBiscuit · 15/03/2013 00:31

I too am not a doctor but I live next door to a vet, so that means I am vair highly qalified.
I vote gout. or some tendon-y thing. Or something else.
Have had plantar fasciitis. Not infectious but bloody sore.

jchocchip. You need to wear cushioned soled shoes! And lower heels! (unless your problem is from wearing ballet pumps)

I was getting this. Someone said it might be a nuroma (?) I went to a chiropodist and he essentially said I was old and fat (he didn't actually say that bit) and had spent too much time wearing heels with thin soles and shouldn't any more. I was nearly in tears, not with pain, but at the thought of wearing ugly shoes all the time. They have improved and more shoes have more cushioning these days which helps. I like wedges with soles that have a bit of give in them.

He also suggested trying insolia inserts for wearing heels. He said he didn't know that they were any good but they claimed they help and I could let him know what I thought. I've not tested them enough to have many thoughts on them.

Its Lupus. SaggOldClothCatPuss MD House University. Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 15/03/2013 01:45

Actually, scrap that. It's never Lupus. Possibly West Nile Fever?

CityTiliDie · 15/03/2013 07:22

If its not painful to the touch or the skin is not red then it is unlikely to be gout. Its more likely to be arthritis though without seeing it and doing a few simple tests its impossible to say for sure so a visit to your GP is advisable especially if its making you worried.

Plantar Fasciitis isnt always down to being fat although weight problems can make it worse. Its often caused by a simple over stretching of the foot/ankle and can be done by stepping off the kerb. Stretch your calf muscle gently and massage your instep with a cold can of bakedbeans.

I've self-diagnosed metatarsalgia. Advice on nhs direct is rest ice compression elevation. I may try that after my run tomorrow....
