to be considering phoning in sick today?

I have been awake since 1.30am (was in bed by 11).

9 1/2mo DD who co-sleeps was sick in bed then (could be a bug - DSS2 has been off school for 2 days after being sick on Sunday), and again at 3.30. I've come downstairs with her and had 2 bouts of the runs myself since then.

DP is self-employed and has already lost 2 days of being able to work properly due to looking after DSS2, and now DD can't go to her childminder for the next 2 days.

I've said to DP (before I had the runs) that I would call in sick today, but he said no. I also have a half day course in work today.

Should I phone in sick? I feel fine in myself, but DD is poorly & DP really needs to get on with some work.

You can't go to work after two episodes of runny bum. ywNBU to phone in sick.

dolcelatte · 13/03/2013 05:39

YANBU

Enfyshedd · 13/03/2013 05:41

Thing is, I have IBS and I'm a bit blase about the runs - if I phoned in everytime I had it, then I'd only be able to work about half of the year.

Seems a bit too much of a coincedence for me to have the runs like this & DD to be sick after DSS2 was sick the other day though.

Can you take annnualeave to look after children? Someone has to, and it sounds like it needs to be you. Plus if you're exhausted then you'll not be much good.

MisselthwaiteManor · 13/03/2013 05:43

Phone in sick, I would.

mabongwen · 13/03/2013 05:46

Sounds like a bug to me YANBU, plus in all honesty if it is a bug please don't go spreading it around lol the entire office will be darting for the loo by lunch time! Haha

Enfyshedd · 13/03/2013 05:47

Work's a bit funny about "emergency" holidays these days, plus I'm trying to keep them for the school hols when the CMs reduce their days. If I said it was solely to look after DD, it would be dependants leave which is unpaid, but it appears I am a bit poorly as well so I don't think I'd be taking the mickey by calling sick (which would be full pay).

SPBInDisguise · 13/03/2013 05:58

Oh I see. In that case I'd prob go for dep. Leave

Enfyshedd · 13/03/2013 06:30

Decision made for me - just been sick myself Sad.

Aww no, test up as much as you can with the little ones. Get well soon x

mabongwen · 13/03/2013 06:37

Rest *

SPBInDisguise · 13/03/2013 06:40

Oh no! Hope you manage today and are all feeling better soon

Enfyshedd · 13/03/2013 13:07

Well, halfway through the day I've managed 2 hours out with DD for some fresh air, been sick a total of 5 times so far, and DP's gone out just afteer picking me to save me the walk home complaining about being a "bloody babysitter for sick kids this week".

Yeah, like I wanted DD to be sick today, nevermind myself. Hmm

Anyway, naptime now. Maybe I can get some sleep too at last...

Oh dear. Hope you're feeling better soon Enfyshedd. I also hope your DP was just having a funny five with that comment. Looking after your children when they're ill isn't "babysitting", it's parenting. Hmm

KellyElly · 13/03/2013 13:15

Why did you start a thread asking if you should call in sick when you had the shits so were sick Confused. Is your boss a MNetter Grin

MrsMangoBiscuit · 13/03/2013 13:19

OP has IBS Kelly, not unusual symptoms, and not catching if that was all it was.

ThunderInMyHeart · 13/03/2013 13:22

There are some horrendous bugs going round at the moment. I would phone in sick.

Hope you feel better soon!

DP has a bit of a short fuse due to having PTSD and is currently trying to get a new work project off the ground to earn some money. Our CM only works 4 days a week so unless I'm still too ill to work tomorrow but am not so bad that I can manage to keep DD out of the house, DP will have lost a whole week of work Sad. I can't really blame him for being narked about it!!

OP posts:
MrsMangoBiscuit · 13/03/2013 14:24

Enfyshedd, you are more patient than I! I can understand narked, but complaining about having to "babysit" would have pissed me off. Mind you, I am biased. How are you feeling?

Enfyshedd · 13/03/2013 14:55

Less nauseous, but exhausted. Have only been able keep down 2 cups of coffee today (for some weird reason, coffee was the only thing that settled my morning sickess, so tried a cup when a friend offered to buy me one when she saw me this morning) - was still being sick just drinking water beforehand.

Have rung work & left message for my manager to expect me off tomorrow as well (call me if she wants) - if schools have a 48hr rule for d&v, even if my office only has a 24hr recommendation, then I'm not clear until at least lunchtime tomorrow. Just hoping that I get a decent night's sleep tonight so I might be up to taking DD out of the house without feeling like I'm going to pass out half the time.

DP's PTSD does mean that I bite my tongue far more than I did with my ExP. To be fair, DP does the vast majority of the the housework, cooking, dealing with DSS1&2, etc & leaves me to deal with just DD most of the time (am still BFing as well as weaning). He is getting MH support for the PTSD, but it's been a bit shit patchy until his last couple of appointments when someone finally took ownership of his case. Previous to that, it was suggested he sign on for full disability due to the PTSD, but he wants to work and he's really good at what he does as long as he gets the time to do it!
