To take day off tomorrow

I work 2 days a week.

Relations with employer are a bit strained. Mostly centreing around wanting me to do full time work on PT contract.

DS has diarrhoea, just potty trained now watery seriously stinky poop and off food.

Has nanny/nursery combo in day. DS2 sure to follow, I'm not feeling too hot either.

I am LP. No one else can look after DS. I know I shouldn't go in. But I just can't face pissing off my employer and missing one, possibly both of my working days. Am in probation period. Worried about question mark over my commitment.

I don't think I am BU. Am I? Alternative ideas anyone?! Help!

YANBU. Your kids come first. They'd have to be stone cold not to appreciate that. Fuck 'em if they don't and, as a back-up, have a nosey for alternative employment.

Hope all get well soon :)

I'd take the day off, but I suspect I'd be in the minority.

I've never been able to afford to employ one, but I understood one of the big advantages of having a Nanny (over your child being in a Nursery all day) was that they would still look after a child who was unwell ? If this is the case, then YABU. If there isn't anychildcare, then YANBU, IMO. That said, if I were in a probationary period, well, even when my dc were little and I was well established then I would do what I could to be making up the lost time, through going in for some time on another day, or taking work home, or whatever is possible in the job you are in.

If he's supposed to be in nursery then YANBU, he can't go in with diarrhoea. Can the nanny have him all day?

Hopasholic · 12/03/2013 21:01

If it wasn't for the fact that you're on a probationary period, I would say have the day off. However, any time off at the moment won't go down well and could scupper your chances of being taken on ( presuming you want to be!) What I'd be tempted to do, would be have the day off tomorrow and if it's feasible, swap your working day to one later in the week ( if type of job permits and of course if you can get then nanny to move her day too?) even if you can't, phone your employer and tell them you are trying to do this.
I have had a nightmare 2 months what with weather/ DCs illnesses and have changed my days as my employer has been supportive in the past and I felt I was taking the mic having so much time off.

FitzgeraldProtagonist · 12/03/2013 21:12

Nanny is nanny share with other children. So can't get her to look after him unfortunately. Will have to ask them if I can swap. They are going to be peaked. I knew this was the answer. Thought might be better to say I am Ill, looks better than saying is my son?!

Thanks all

If it makes things simpler, yes, say it's you who has d&v. In the grand scheme of things, its a white lie to save face. Great suggestion upthread to swap your day. Even if they say 'no', you've shown willing and flexibility.
