To spray a cat

with water just as it was just about to poo in my garden?
It was preparing it's 'toilet area' next to my snowdrops and I sprayed it with water. The cat ran off.
Our garden is littered with cat poo and a cat loving friend actually suggested the use water. It this U?

I've got a water pistol as well that I spray cats with. Also found that curry powder is better than pepper dust. You can get curry plants as well!

I am besotted with our cat, but wouldn't object if you'd squirted her with a water pistol, just so long as you hadn't held her down and hosed her in sub zero conditions.

I sprayed a persistent offender who kept getting in through the cat flap with orange juice.
Never came back again.

How much curry powder would you need? A pinch liberally sprinkled or a whole packet?

YANBU. I have 4 cats and would not mind at all if people sprayed them with water to get them out of their gardens.

My Gran swore blind that a pop bottle half filled with water keeps the cats at bay.

I thought it was the first sign of senility, but other people do it too. The theory is that the reflections from the pop bottle and the water create prisms of light that the cat doesn't like.

Whether this works or not, is another story.

LadyP: A Karcher should do the job. Sorry cat lovers but this made me laugh! I used a plant spray bottle - I don't fancy hanging around for days until they get the message though. I might try pepper next.

Thank you though to everyone with cats who has said IANBU. I was expecting a different response. Your responses have made me feel less about the poo situation!

My DBil had a cat in his garden the other day. He threw a tennis ball at the shed beside it to scare it and as the cat whipped round at the noise, the tennis ball rebounded and smacked it right in the face. He didn't mean to and I'm sorry but I laughed.

Yanbu. I've done this. We use 'cats away' as I don't want my children playing on soiled grass and we don't have a cat ourselves.

YANBU, it won't harm them and will hopefully give them the message your garden is a no go area.

My cat (late cat. ) had some sort of reciprocal arrangement with the cat next door. She would crap in his back garden and he would do the flowerbed in our front garden.

No, you were well within your rights. We have a cat who comes around (god knows where from because we live in the middle of nowhere) and craps on my veg plot unless the dog is in the garden.
I would DEARLY love to shoot it with my shotgun and sort the little bastard out once and for all but sadly that's illegal and would get me in a lot of trouble with the cops so I have to continue sending the dogs after it when I see it and hope that one day it'll get the message and not return or the dogs will actually catch it!

Yanbu , water pistol or washing up liquid bottle filled with water is fine. I had a cat who use to use my neighbours garden and this is what I suggested to her. I have no problems with people spraying my cats if they dont want them in their gardens.

Water is fine.. unless it's my cat - she loves water!
