AIBU to think there might be something iffy about this house/seller?

Have been to view a house in an ongoing development, houses have been released in stages over the last couple of years, more homes currently being built.

Had a look around, not a bad size, garden smaller than ours but living space larger, all good so far. Being a nosy bitch I asked why they were selling, was given a reasonable answer (details could out me), I asked how long they had been there and it turned out to be a couple of months.

The reason they gave for moving would have been obvious before they bought this place, so were they trying and failed to make a quick buck, fallen out with the neighbours or what.....?

Or is it none of my god damn business and if I like the house just shut up and buy it Hmm

Sorry, I meant to say that perhaps they found out there were a lot more associated costs they weren't counting on and it just doesn't add up for them anymore.

I dont think it's affordability, the ha's are very thorough in their assessment, think 3 years of bank statements, pay slips etc.

It works out to be @ £500 per month including rent service charge insurance.

No mass exodus, brand new homes on for higher price. I don't think there were any other resales.

At the risk of sounding a right twat, I would say there are some affordable rent properties, we passed a group of 4 or 5 lads and ladies having a ciggie outside, they didn't look like they could afford to buy on the open market, excuse me whilst I tug my judgy drawers out the crack of my arse Blush

Update
Just spoken to the resale agent and they have been given a totally different reason, that the eldest dc has now gone to uni and the house is too big, onlt uni would have started months before they bought the place Confused

That would set alarm bells ringing. I would think that there was something you were not being told.

That may be because it is personal and none of your business, but it may mean there is something wrong with the house/area/neighbours.

I agree that knocking on doors would be a good idea. Also, if possible, go to the area in the evenings and sit in the car, see if anything's going on.

Also, look on the police website. You can see local crimes. See if it's a hotspot? click here

Thanks for the link, crime isn't apparently an issue in the new house area, but according to that there was a violent crime at the bottom of our road in january Shock

I'm going to drive out there this afternoon, give the neighbours a knock.

Good idea.

Can you also drive round late in the evening a few times? If there's trouble, that's when it's most likely to be!

Darksideofthe80s · 14/03/2013 13:57

I wouldn't be able to get out there at night, but a friend works not far from there and has offered to do a drive by on the way home both earlyish evening and when on lates.

Be aware that most mortgage lenders wont lend on properties that the previous owner has not owned for more than 6 months.

Definitely do some more digging. I've had people lie to my face before when I've asked about things like neighbours and noise. We made a very costly mistake (in terms of both money and my sanity!) when we trusted the word of the seller about a downstairs neighbour. They hadn't made any official complaints, but if we had bothered to talk to the neighbours we would have found out he was a massive PITA who had his TV on so loud you could hear it 3 doors down!

Never, ever trust the seller. Speak to the neighbours and even if they lie you should be able to tell pretty easily if you take them off guard (by just knocking on their door).
