I know it's for charideeeee and a good caaaaause and everything.

The idea is all well and good, but the execution is crap.

I don't want a t-shirt with Marilyn Monroe's face partially covered by a red circle.

I don't want to wear my onesie to work.

I don't want to watch TV presenters perform crap sketches.

And I don't want to see or hear any more about it.

Yanbu. I avoid it too and won't donate as the self righteous celebs annoy me. I do donate to other charities though.

MsVestibule · 11/03/2013 09:54

You have the legitimate opportunity to wear a onesie to work and you're turning it down? Shock

TBH, it all passes me by, I'm not really sure how. Maybe by just watching other things on TV and never leaving the house in March so I avoid people rattling buckets.

CockyFox · 11/03/2013 09:55

It's not that bad, Ok watching a comedy version of eastenders or whatever isn't very entertaining and like Children in Need the TV event has got a bit same old same old but I think going to work in your Pjs or whatever is actually quite fun and it gets people to give to charity when they wouldn't normally.
I have also found it a good basis for talking to my children about the issues it supports.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 11/03/2013 09:55

YANBU - I don't watch any of it...the only indulgence I do is give money to DS to get himself a red nose.

I donate to my chosen charities, I don't like having it forced down my throat. I would never moan about it in RL, I just don't partake in it either.

specialsubject · 11/03/2013 09:57

yes, it is one of those nights for a big stock of DVDs (the other being Children in Need).

some good causes, but generates a huge amount of plastic and a look at their accounts shows ENORMOUS overheads. There are much more efficient ways of giving to charity.

Trills · 11/03/2013 09:58

A comedy version of Eastenders

What is the difference between this and Children In Need? Apart from the red nose vs the bear?

Whydobabiescry · 11/03/2013 09:58

YANBU it's a bit tedious but at least it's entertaining unlike children in need which is plain awful. Both good causes though and anything that raises money is good as far as I'm concerned.

SirBoobAlot · 11/03/2013 10:02

I'd rather give directly to an individual charity than watch someone stand there and say how much money is needed for these poor people when a good portion of it goes into his own bank account.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 11/03/2013 10:02

YANBU I wont be watching..annoys the hell out of me when those 'celebs' give up their time to travel to Africa then hop back on a plane to their millionaire lives..swanning around dripping in designer clothes and diamonds while expecting the struggling skint general public to dip into their empty wallets.
I do give what I can to charities of my choice, not because some knob comedian writes a not in the slightest bit funny sketch.

Trills · 11/03/2013 10:06

Don't you want to tell me that I am a miserable killjoy and that the children love it?

OP posts:
merrymouse · 11/03/2013 10:06

YANBU.

  1. don't like pressure from tv and celebs to take part. It's as though if somebody isn't interviewing you on a local tv station you might as well n
  2. if you really want to maximise money you give to charity, sponsoring somebody with cash is about the most inefficient way to do it.
merrymouse · 11/03/2013 10:07
  1. you might as well not be doing it.
merrymouse · 11/03/2013 10:09

Not keen on children in need either.

Trills · 11/03/2013 10:10

Children in Need is exactly the same isn't it? Is one BBC and the other ITV or something?

TeWiSavesTheDay · 11/03/2013 10:17

I am getting more meh about it as time goes by.

Some of the projects are great, but some just don't seem very well thought out or the best use of money. One they are talking about this year involves trying to get every pregnant women to go to hospital to give birth. Maybe I'm a heartless bitch, but it's much more efficient to pick out the most high risk cases for hospital births.

merrymouse · 11/03/2013 10:17

Comic relief was inspired by live aid afaik.

Lulabellarama · 11/03/2013 10:20

SirBoobalot No celebrities get paid for Comic Relief, that's just bollocks.

LadyPessaryPam · 11/03/2013 10:31

I have totally ignored it but I don't what much TV so it's easy.

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/03/2013 10:34

They may not be paid for comic relief, but wasn't there a issue that Sir T Wogan was being paid a fee to present children in need.

I just resent the whole lot of bullsh*t that goes with red nose day. We have enough need on our own borders and sitting a throwing a whole lot of money at a face friendly bunch of Africans is not going to solve anything.

YouTheCat · 11/03/2013 10:37

I shall be getting in nibbles and wine and having a good old laugh next Friday.

Not all the money goes to Africa (not that it would bother me if it did).

teachertrainer80 · 11/03/2013 10:38

TBH, the appearance of tax avoiding scum like Jimmy Carr just made me angry rather than charitable. If the likes of him paid more than 1% tax on their millions, society might not be so unequal and we wouldn't need charity where the rich make the poor feel grateful so they can have a warm glow...

Poledra · 11/03/2013 10:46

I cannot think of anything worse than wearing my pyjamas to work. Apart from going totally nekkid, which would be infinitely worse for my poor colleagues.

catgirl1976 · 11/03/2013 11:05

YANBU

I avoid tbh. I may make a donation but I don't watch it or get involved

It annoys me. A guy at work is having his chest waxed for it and making a big hoo ha which irritates me as

a) gazillions of women have stuff waxed everyday without making a big song and dance and

b) he just wants people to see his chest as he's been hitting the gym and this is a good excuse

Fillyjonk75 · 11/03/2013 11:06

I don't mind it, I think they are a pretty good charity and I enjoy the dancing show.
