To expect my kids to behave on Mother's Day

Love my 5 year old twins to bits but really wish they would behave, since they climbed into our bed this morning at 5 this morning they have fought and argued, ran off during Mother's Day lunch and generally been a handful, they don't listen and think its funny when me or DH get cross, I'm exhausted!

Mine are normally well behaved.
They've both been little sods today!

Trills · 10/03/2013 15:41

No reason why they would "be good" today rather than any other day.

Depending on what you are doing, they may be less likely - are you having a "special lunch" that requires more of them than usual?

We had lunch out at a sushi restaurant, their choice (we live in London) and they normally behave quite well, for five year old twins but they just seem manic,

Yabu

They are 5... Its just another day for them

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 10/03/2013 17:34

God I'm with you today! At least you'll have more luck explaining it to two five year olds than I am with a 10m old and a 2.4 year old though! Grin

At least my DH is being a bloody star though, even if the kids hate me (I know they don't hate me really)

5am on a Sunday? Send 'em straight back out again! 7:00 on a Saturday and 8:00 on Sunday are the rules in this house (although I'm sometimes up earlier sorting out the animals anyway).

A start like that just sets you up for a bad day! By mid afternoon they'll be knackered and letting them just come in to your room in the morning whenever they like makes it sound like they rule the roost a bit!

You're the boss, don't ever let them forget it.

it depends how they usually behave TBH. you cant really expect good behaviour on Mothers' Day if they dont normally expect to be disciplined when they misbehave. however if they are normally pretty good and responsive to you when you tell them to behave then i wonder if there was maybe too much going on on Mothers' Day and they got caught up in the novelty of the day?
