I am signed off work at the moment due to a bereavement. My DD handed a member of staff my sick note, this was on Tuesday last week. On Wednesday my boss phoned me and asked for my sick note, I explained that my DD had handed it to Jen (not her real name) yesterday. She said no problem.
She phoned me on Thursday and said it has been lost and can I get a duplicate for Friday as that is the deadline for Pay.
I phoned up the Drs and collected it Fri morning and handed it in.
I got paid today and I am two weeks short. I went to see my boss and she phoned personnel. They told her the deadline was actually Thursday Angry oh and that they found the original sicknote Friday morning, arghhh!
I can't afford to be two weeks short, Where do I stand? Confused They told my boss they will pay me next month.
Sorry for the long post.

payroll should pay you earlier if you go and talk to them. i had this problem once and i went and spoke to a manager who helped me get it sorted. i really needed the money and they sorted it ASAP. you shouldn't have to wait an extra month.

CaptainSweatPants · 08/03/2013 18:58

Yes if you kick up a fuss they'll transfer it for you

Floggingmolly · 08/03/2013 19:02

Their mistake; losing the original sick note and your boss giving you incorrect information. They can easily sort it, but you'll have to insist.

Sparklyblue · 08/03/2013 19:05

Thank you!
God, I hate confrontation, I'm not very confident.
Do you think they will pay me, I have a feeling they won't budge.

I once transferred Health Trusts and then within 6 weeks was struck down with a horrible viral illness. I wasn't paid, because you have to be working for the Trust for 3 months. Except that NHS policy is that continuous service bridges transfers between Trusts.

I was told there was nothing they could do until the next month. I told them that wasn't good enough.

I was then told that they would send me a cheque, but it would take 2 days to raise and (at that time) 5 days to clear. I told them that wasn't good enough.

I was then told I could have a BACs payment but it would take 3 working days. Given that it was a Friday, of course that translated to 5 actual days.

At that point I'd had enough of their suggestions. I told them that I'd be at finance for 2pm and I'd expect £1000 in cash to be ready.

It was.

They can do it. They don't like to, but they can.

Tell them you cant get to work because you cant pay your fares -and you will be passing on all bank charges.

But in seriousness - they can transmit a one off payments, smae day, they just can't be arsed to.

first and foremost you must contact your bank, tell them what has happened, and ask if charges can be waived this month as it is out of your control. Don;t let debt spiral

It's bad isn't it, I haven't been paid at all last month and I don't think I'm going to get paid this month, all because my manager filled in the wrong form to say I've finished maternity leave and am now on annual leave, had to pay out nursery fees etc, thank goodness for our overdraft!! Hope they sort it, it's not like it's a fiver is it!!

Sparklyblue · 08/03/2013 19:17

No it flippin' isn't a fiver, lol. I had to pay nursury fees today too.

Make it plain it's a company fault. Ask for the money straight away (I did the same as lougle once and they got the money same day - it was also the NHS. I've also worked in payroll and had to do several same day money transfers)

Make it plain to work that if anything bounces, direct debits fail they will be billed for the costs (keep any letters).
