i put in for a mutual exchange in January, swapping with another lady in my area. she loves my house and vice versa.

after both sending the forms to our respective landlords, and loads and loads of F**king about (at their end) i had my house inspection (to give the OK to swap) 2 weeks ago.

i was told my housing officer would be in touch. getting hold of her is like trying to get hold of the prime minister. anyway, i FINALLY got to speak to my housing officer today, Turns out that we now have 8 days to sign the mutual exchange, as apparently if the exchange is not completed within 42 days from the date we applied for the exchange, then it gets cancelled. i mean WTF??!! why?? and the reason its took so long is cos of THEM holding things up, not us!!

am FUMING. and also really worried at the prospect of losing my perfect new house :(

Housing Association rent is affordable. A lot more affordable that private rent and lots of people would eat there arm for a housing Association house!!

I hope you get the exchange tho. Surely 8 days is enough for you to sign papers?

scarlettsmummy2 · 08/03/2013 17:06

Do you still have time to get it completed? If so, just get on with it! Housing officers are allowed to get sick or take holidays too!

livinginwonderland · 08/03/2013 17:13

i'm sure you can get papers signed in 8 days. calm down.

MoodyDidIt · 08/03/2013 17:16

sorry - i forgot to say in my dummy spitting rage

its out of our hands now - the documents saying i have passed my inspection have gone to the other landlord, to do what with, i don't know. so basically we just have to wait and theres SOD all either of us can do about it

Why do you need more than 8 days to sign the exchange?

MoodyDidIt · 08/03/2013 17:28

sorry Blush ...my OP was crap, i didnt explain. see my last post....basically the documents are with the other landlord now, so they have got to do, whatever they have to do with them. and then we will be able to sign.

In my case because I am swapping between two housing associations who both like to exchange at the end of the week, Thursday or Friday for a Monday tenancy start.

I have a date which me, the other lady and my housing officer can do but her housing officer has been unavailable for the last two days. If she can't do that then I have to get in touch with mine (also very difficult) and rearrange.

We also have only two weeks to complete this because of the six week rule as the permission letters have only just been sent out. But realistically this means only four possible days (Thurs / Fri next week or the week after) when all four of us can get together.

The swapee and I can do any time, it's trying to contact the official people!

MoodyDidIt · 08/03/2013 18:51

aww audrina its a joke isnt it :(

i am moving from HA to council

hope you get yours sorted in time

why do they have a 6 week rule if its such a damn long winded bureacratic process!! and i would love to know what housing officers do all day, sod all work by the sounds of things! grrr

It could probably be improved if they contacted each other and / or had diaries which colleagues could co-ordinate for them when they are on leave or out of the office. Their rules yet they're the ones with no sensible system of getting this done within their time-limit Confused

Best of luck - it is so frustrating!
