to worry about effects of pile driving on toddler?

Probably am...

Gotten woken up by head being bounced against the head of the bed no it wasn't DH you dirty minded people by pile driving stop sniggering.

For those not familiar this involves a massive vibrating thump every second or so in bursts of around 30, followed by a 30 second pause then repeat. At the moment the thump is large enough to be moving glasses around on a table for reference.

Okay so during the day when up and about it is noisy and annoying but so what. We live in a partially built new estate and what are you going to do. While up and about your body acts as a shock absorber but when lying down it is enough to blur vision.

I am slightly worried about my toddler who sleeps through this for about 2 hours every afternoon. While asleep the constant wacking is vibrating her head around. I think it would be about equivialent to kicking her cot every second, with a force nearly able to move it.

Am I being paranoid to think this might be a problem?

Yes

I know of what you speak.
I think it'll be ok. My toddler son slept through it too.
No lasting damage I so far as I am aware. Grin

Yes I am certainly glad she isn't a newborn though...and there are several of those in nearby houses.

Is it really okay to have newborns shaken around like this?

Spoke to site manager and although he clearly had no better means to judge the effects of cot shaking on babies, he did say that the work was only going on till lunch time today and then would be done for the forseeable future.

ICBINEG Hope the noise has stopped by now.
I know how you feel - we had this 2 years ago when they were building new houses opposite us. It went on for 2 days - the spot lights were shaking in the kitchen causing them to flicker - and my DD is epileptic. We had to go out in the end as the constant thump was more than we could stand. A woman from 3 streets away came up the road to find out where the noise was coming from, as she had a headache, having put up with the noise all day.
They are due to build more houses next to us shortly. We saw the builders clearing the ground. They said they were surveying to see if they needed to pile! We told them we felt sure they wouldn't need to - Lol!!!

Can i ask why you moved into a partially finished building site with a baby if you are worried About the effects of building work on her?

ICBINEG · 11/03/2013 15:55
