To wish news 24 presenters would not comment on the news..

I don't want banter, I want news, they are not my friend, I am not interested in their opinion.

This morning male presenter (can't remember his name - the cocky irritating one) read a story about a woman zoo keeper mauled to death by a lion in a big cat sanctuary in USA, the lion was shot dead (by police I believe).
Cocky man back at the desk comments incredulously 'why on earth did they shoot the lion?'
Now I love wildlife, and hate the idea of a healthy lion being killed, but a woman was killed FFS - maybe the lion was still mauling her and they were trying to stop it, maybe it wouldn't let anyone into the enclosure to get to her. The whole story was not told.Yes maybe they should have darted it, but in the heat of the moment and in panic, unfortunately the lion was shot. A young woman also died, - I think it is crass to comment on the situation in the way he did.

It's not the only example, - Clive whatever his name is likes to add his two penn'orth to every item, and always tries to disassociate himself from fashion items etc 'I've been told to sneer say the Duchess was wearing a coat from Hobbs, which is a women's shop apparently'

Just read the fucking news, I don't care what you think.

And breathe.

I seem to be the only person who finds this annoying Grin

It's not really news though is it.

Change channel ?

Montybojangles · 07/03/2013 15:47

Watch al jazeera, then you will realise just how shite the BBC news has become. They cover far more stories in a lot more depth. Channel 4 news at 7pm is also very good.

CocacolaMum · 07/03/2013 15:50

I have this grievance too.. I don't care about their opinions (I have Jeremy vine for that tyvm).. just read it n jog on!

I agree about ch4 news btw

MechanicalTheatre · 07/03/2013 15:52

Yes, Al Jazeera and Channel Four news are your friends. The BBC is as bad as Sky/ITV these days.

PoppyAmex · 07/03/2013 15:52

BBC news are very insular.

I don't know if that was always the case, but I find the way they report news pretty superficial and narrow in scope.

LineRunner · 07/03/2013 15:55

Susannah Reid and her stupid face-pulling and 'wow' comments put me right off Breakfast News, which is shame as the rest of them are very good.

KurriKurri · 07/03/2013 18:31

I could change channel, I do watch channel 4 news in the evening, but often just stick it on news 24 during the day if it is not a specified news time on other channels.

I would like to watch Al Jazeera but I suspect I can't get it on my telly (don't have Sky only Freeview)

BBC news 24 is worth watching if you like comedy subtitles though, - my elderly mum has the subtitles on, and its a wonder she can make any sense out of the news at all, one the other day said something like 'the Pope is arse'
Rude words are common, proper names are completely beyond the subtitlers, and subtitles are usually approx three minutes behind so do not connect to the picture in anyway.

News 24 surpassed itself the other day when an item about the Queen leaving hospital, with accompanying pictures of her on the hospital steps, was followed by an item which started 'psychiatric patient jailed for killing someone'.
Needless to say, the pictures of the Queen were still being shown as the second story was being read out. The newsreader stopped in mid sentence (obviously in response to shouting in her earpiece) and just flapped her mouth for 30 seconds while the pictures caught up. Grin

I only have freeview, al jazeera is about 3 channels up from bbc news channel (have to thank my dad for pointing me in its direction).

KurriKurri · 07/03/2013 18:56

Thanks Monty - I will search it out and definitely give it a go Smile

Yanbu. In fact that applies to all bbc news readers - and writers.

Give me facts, please! If you want to do a comment piece, great, but do not give your opinion masquerading as news.

Oh, and do not just copy and paste press releases. Strangely enough they will not be unbiased.
