to have been upset with work colleague

I went into work today to see work friends and one woman there asked me my baby's name. I told her and she said " You meanie he won't thank you for that when he is older!" She said this twice while laughing (regarding his middle name) I laughed it off but was upset inside as my son's middle name is after my dad who died a few months before i became pregnant. I just felt that if she didn't like it then that would be fine but to openly be critical?

I'd have told her why you chose the name, for no other reason than to watch her cringe and watch others cringe for her. What a caaaah.

NoelHeadbands · 06/03/2013 22:53

Has she always been a complete arsehat or is it a recent development?

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2013 22:54

Aww that's awful to hear OP

But did she know about your Dad?

Not that it makes her any less rude anyway but you know...

FWIW my DH has his favourite late Uncle's name as his middle name and even though I was well aware of it, I creased up laughing during my wedding vows and just couldn't say it Blush

Sorry for your loss Thanks

brummiegirl1 · 06/03/2013 22:55

I was going to say that to her and wish i had now but at the time i didn't want to make her feel awkward! I shouldn't have cared really as she obviously didn't care about taking the mickey out of his name.

You know that she will feel bad when she discovers the origin of the name, it is hard but you must let i go. My Dad passed in Jan 12 and his spirit definitely lives on in my 3 DSs, you too have that comfort Thanks

gimmecakeandcandy · 06/03/2013 22:59

What a rude cow! Definitely need to make her cringe!

RosePetalsAndLace · 06/03/2013 23:00

I'd be upset too.

I would always say to someone what a lovely name they had chosen regardless of whether I liked it or not and would never openly laugh.

YANBU.

She wasn't one of my favourite work colleague TBH as i have always found her slightly rude NoelHeadbangs.

WorraLiberty- i think i told her but she probably forgot, i just felt down all afternoon thinking about it.

She was rude.

Ignore her. But I'm sorry you were upset by her.

brummiegirl1 · 06/03/2013 23:11

Sorry for your loss too mummydarkling. It is a comfort to know he saw my first son so he knew he was a grandad even though he died when my son was only 9 months.

I know i shouldn't have let her bother me really but she took me by surprise as i would never dream of saying that about somebody's name choice even if i didnt like it.

Your son will always be named after your lovely dad, she will always be a sour rude bitch. Which is better ? Smile

foxache · 06/03/2013 23:15

She's rude and thoughtless, try to forget it.

I took my scan into work and showed a (then childless) colleague, he said 'urgh, your baby's ugly'. A few years later I remembered this when I bumped into him and cooed over his newborn. He was still rude.

brummiegirl1 · 07/03/2013 00:12

That was so rude of your colleague foxache, fancy saying that about a scan picture! Some poeple are so thoughtless with what they say.
