i know im being unreasonable but i don't care and needed to rant.
I've been going to a childrens center every Monday for 4 month's, i always ticked the pair"not registered" bit when signing in and this Monday I finally filled in the paperwork and gave it in.
today they phoned me and said i can't go anymore as im not in there catchment / pay my council tax to the wrong council.
I know IABU but i don't care important cross

I'm confused.

It is crap that children's centres have had to start being strict about these things because of cuts, but maybe you could find another class or group on a Monday instead. Children's centres are a very recent luxury, so it's not surprising that they are no longer receiving the funding they once did.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 06/03/2013 19:08

Raise the matter of continuity for your child and the fact that you and your child have made friends there. Ask that they reconsider because of how long you have been going.

People make these decisions, not computers so hopefully someone you talk to will have a heart!

Good luck.

INeedThatForkOff · 06/03/2013 19:31

Well maybe you could look at it differently and consider yourself lucky to have benefited from four months' free services because the centre you use is lax with its paperwork.

^ exactly

Is there another children's centre that you can go to?

MajaBiene · 06/03/2013 21:00

Is there a centre which is in your area?

The problem children's centres are facing now is that funding is all coming down to reaching the right target groups and demonstrating that progress is being made etc. There is less and less money for open access groups.

Smartiepants79 · 06/03/2013 21:01

You are completely reasonable to be really fed up but not sure there is anything you can do about it.
Is there not a sure start that you CAN go to?

That is very annoying. The one I go to (which has been my lifeline for 3 years!) is not the one I'm 'supposed' to go to according to my postcode (the correct one is much further away Hmm), but they've never been anything but totally welcoming and I'm not sure what the motivation would be for turning people away Confused Are the classes very oversubscribed and they are having to turn people away?

KC225 · 06/03/2013 22:44

Our local children's centre was very strict about boundaries which I felt was a little unfair as it was not over subscribed and if people made the effort to attend ........

You can try to get your health visitor on board - I know a couple that arranged for border line line mums to attend. Means stating a good case etc. The continuity and the fact that you feel comfortable there is a good start,

Biggem · 06/03/2013 23:41

thanks everyone. it is the best one around, the staff are lovely and the classes are great. My phone"local" ones for not have the variety if class and nothing aimed at my eldest (21 month) it all geared at 0 - 18 month.
I think I will go Monday and chat with them.
I understand the ££ issues these center are under but uf i hadn't filled my form in they would have been none the wiser. grrrrr.
and its in an affluent area

If you live on a border, which side is your gp surgery in?

We were assigned an out of county gp surgery when we moved as although we live in one county, the nhs deemed this one our closest.

Our HV team are also out of county and work with the out of county centre so all the information they gave me was for that one. I've done courses there and attend a twin group there.

However, they have in the last 2-3 years, opened a sure start centre in my nearest town, in county. It is the one which does outreach to our rural school. My home start volunteer comes from the in county one as they work with county borders and I signed up to a course there as the info came home from school.

I'm asking because if your HV team is associated with the one you use, any info you get is for that one rather than your in county one, you'd probably have justification for continuing to use it.

My children are registered at both and my HV is working with both to ensure I can access any support I need, but would otherwise miss out on because of the border/nhs issue.
