To wonder just how dangerous is cat poo to children...

Having a garden tidy up today and just scooped up the worst of the cat poo from my lawn. There were a few runny ones (sorry I know its lunchtime) I can't really do much about these. Now I have a 4 year old and a toddler and was wondering if I can let them play in the grass if i just give it a hose down.
I have tried googling cleaning up cat poo and all I find is hysteria about toxoplasmosis. I am sure I remember being told that most people contract this in a lifetime anyway and although I want to keep the kids safe, I am not willing to never let them play outside.
Is there anyone (preferably a microbiologist Grin) who can advise me.

Also how can I stop the stinking bastard cats from re-offending. Its my own cat as well as every other one in the neighbourhood it seems.

Creating a midden in your garden that is fenced off so the children can't go there can be a very useful strategy. You have bare earth that is regularly dug making it attractive to cats.
The main risk is through ingestion so ensuring the children wash their hands when coming in from the garden before eating.
I am a vet so regularly exposed through my job (lambing ewes too) and my own cats, but so far I' m negative.
